Hi,

My 07 V8V is at Lancaster AM in Reading today for a 6th yr service having only done 16k miles.
The only report back from the technician following the health check is that the rear brake pads are 80% worn and handbrake pads are worn close to the limit – these will need to be replaced together and the cost is £702.46inc and they have the parts in stock blaa blaa..

I know this cost is well over the odds and i am probably not going to get them to change it.

My question is: Where and how much can i get these changed for? I understand that ill probaly need the sensors too etc.
Are there any local (to Reading/Berks) independent garages i can call to get a quote. I have also seen some posts that the parts are available from Eurocarparts, but i will still need someone to fit them.
& What are the best pads to get for rear.

Many thanks

R

If you don't fancy doing it yourself then any garage could fit them, there's nothing unusual or magical about them and should take around 30 mins. The pagids on Eurocarparts are original fitment pads.

Thanks!
Are the handbrake pads part of the same rear brake pad set? Or are these a desperate item I will need to purchase?

Could you point me to the exact URL on eurocarparts for the item please?

Thanks again

Not trying to tread on any toes but here goes:

http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/c/Aston+Martin_V8+...

183.6 less 25% = £137.70

For the rear pads, handbrake pads extra. Wouldn't expect these to wear out unless your using the traction control a lot?

I had been told the traction control used the "normal" rear pads as opposed to handbrake. Would be interested in knowing which is the case

Take it to Quickfit! They'll do a better job than AM Reading (allegedly)!

Quote sounds ridiculous. Buy the parts from the places described above and get any competent mechanic to put them in for you.

Ok. Thanks for all the valuable responses. So i have the pads in my basket at carparts4less.
I assume I need 2 of the following sensors as well?
http://www.carparts4less.co.uk/cp4l/c/Aston+Martin...

Would they need to bleed the brake fluid to change the pads? The Aston garage today suggested that this would also need to be done.

Cheers

Sorry guys. One other thing...
What about the handbrake pads they mentioned needs changing? I can't find a separate item for handbrake pads on euroCP's or CP4less.
Cheers

You have just reminded me of the last time that I went to Kwikfit (for two tyres), probably about 15 years ago. They probably assume, that their customers know nothing about cars.

"The brake pads on your car are worn Sir, and need replacing", said the fitter. "Oh dear" I said, knowing that they were only about 30% worn. "Please show me how worn they are". The employee then pointed vaguely under the front of the car, at the 70% pad material.

Some customers can be tricked. Others will never go to your business ever again.

you only need the wires/sensors if you've gone down to them and the brake pad warning light is on...otherwise you can re-use your old ones

Thanks for this advise. My current warning lights have Not come on. Great that I can re-use the current ones.

When exactly (%) does the warning lights get triggered? AM said my pads are at about 80%.

Similar to the Jag Stype... Or the same?
Can these be used not bad for £17.60. The EBC Ultimax brand is £32.47 on eBay.
