Road Tax....If I May...
Discussion
Just bought Karen a used X5. I owner, full service history etc, first registered September 2007.
Full MOT to March next year...
Why the difference ???
Does this mean the previous owner Mot'd it 6 months early ?? Or has it had a 6 months Sorn ??
Confirmation that no major work needed on the car since first registration.
Dealer unsure so where would I find out??
Edit: The RFL is running coterminous with the registration date. It is the Mot date I'm querying.

might have been stuck on a dealers forecourt for a few months when the tax / MOT ran out previously and not taxed / MOT'd until sold, or a previous owner cashed in the tax when they sold it on.
Or a dealer put a years MOT on it when sold previously, despite it not being due.

This is the first time it has been sold since new if the 1 previous owner is correct. If it had been sitting on the Dealer's forecourt then surely he would know why there was a 6 month lag Or a dealer put a years MOT on it when sold previously, despite it not being due.

When I went to p/x my hairdressers SLK for my Training Bra I found out the SLK needed an MOT 12 months previous. Why don't DVLA send out a reminder. Just a thought matey
They do...it must have gone astray. It is possible though Nick - bit crazy to get away without an MOT on the car for 6 to 12 months with all these ANPRs about.
But yeah....perhaps they just forgot to get it done for 6 months?? Would it be backdated though or doesn't it work like that

It's not unusual to find a customer forgets to get the car tested and comes in many months - yes even 12 months sometimes - late when they find they cannot get the RFL. So this way the test is quite often out of sync with the tax

Thanks Tony (and Nick the nark). It seems likely that the previous owner just forgot for a few months....nothing more mysterious than that. It's not unusual to find a customer forgets to get the car tested and comes in many months - yes even 12 months sometimes - late when they find they cannot get the RFL. Thanks also for confirmation that an MOT cannot be backdated. You are correct about the reminders - I'm thinking of RFL. I always thought they sent a reminder of the first MOT but that may just be my contract hire company on the company BMWs

MoT history is easy to check out too.....VOSA.gov.uk all you need is the VRN , CURRENT MoT cert number OR 16 digit document ref number off the V5C or new owner slip that you should have.........

lol

Oh you are a gem matey....top tip for anyone buying a car next
lol

I am awaiting the new owner slip - it is far slower when there is a cherished plate involved. Interestingly the Dealer said I could still come and collect it and leave her 3 series p/x there but I would have to pay a refundable surety of £500 to make sure that I brought the 3 series V5 as soon as I receive it (in its original plate denotation) as they could do nothing with her p/x car until they had it.
I stated as an efficient guy that many of you know I would do that promptly anyway, and 17 BMWs from them in 12 years should be a decent character reference. He said it's company policy. I said get stuffed.
When the V5 arrives I will go and collect the X5 but if the First Aid kit is even out of date I will be rejecting it

You could be sitting in another part of the D & D whilst your suitability to have lunch with the Fanboys is discussed.

OK, you are in.
PS how short are you?
Not all police forces in the UK subscribe the MOT database via ANPR.
Each system, Insurance, Tax and MOT etc needs to be paid for by EACH police force individually, they decide which ones they invest in.
For example, Lancashire Constabulary DO NOT pay to access the MOT database via ANPR, so any car running without MOT in Lancashire will proceed undetected unless stopped for other reasons.
