Oh wise PHers,

Car delivered back from dealer after some warranty work on an engine oil leak. Car has inherited a scuff on the drivers side adjacent to the handle, and the aircon is no longer working. Not happy, so I've emailed the dealer, lets see what they come back with.

Any thoughts on the Aircon? On start it defaults to recirculating mode and blows ambient, hot air regardless of temp setting. The internal sensor is working as if I put it on auto it blows like stink, but it's really warm air! Compressor?

Very disappointed as I'm due to be at Goodwood on Thursday but really don't want to drive it in heavy traffic with high ambient temps....I'll be a soggy mess when I get there. Equally I need the car to be good for Rob and Molly's Welsh extravaganza.

Grrrr.

This happened to me once with a BMW, it turned out that they had caused a connection on the compressor to come off during the work on the engine. 1 minute to put right.

I've got my fingers crossed for you!

Could just need re-gassing. The only real time you notice the A/C is not working is when it gets warmer. Rare in the UK!

Can get that sorted anywhere for about £50 or less But not stealerships!

That does sound a very slap dash performance by your dealer Mark. It was working when you took it in. They work on the engine. You get it back scuffed and a major system not working.
Where was the oil leak?

Hi Neil, not entirely sure where the leak was. It was very minor, leaving only a finger nail size droplet on the garage floor after a couple of weeks, but I wanted to get it sorted whilst still under warranty. Front left of main engine and was informed it was a crack in a pipe which they have replaced. Just very disappointed not to be able to enjoy it and with the forthcoming events on the horizon I want to get things sorted as soon as poss. Rubbish.

I hope you get it sorted in time Mark.
I have tickets for the Silverstone Classic and the Carfest North but it now looks as if I am going to be floating around the mid Atlantic on my way to Las Palmas instead. Damn!

Indeed.

Sorry to hear your issues Marcus Andromicus......Big T had a similar paintwork issue with Wilmslow (pictures are too awful to reproduce) and they were suitably embarrassed to remedy the issue tout de suite. Oh....and he's 6'8"....across the shoulders yes

It will cost very little for the Dealer to sort your issue on the AC if re-gassing is required smile

Ive had mine regassed twice over 2 years, and it turned out to be a leak on the compressor. Heard of a few now like this. Just waiting to hear from Bridge Mill if they can get a compressor service kit to fix it rather than a new £650 part or £250 from a breakers (but then you don't know if its going to go again)

So now on 25 deg days its another reason to go out on a motorbike instead.....

If it was working when it went in and now suddenly it is not, unlikely to be this, I would have thought. Would this not be a slow process unless there is now a leak?

hehe I got a roadster sun tan today round Wales

Mark, likelihood is they have disturbed an aircon pipe whilst doing the oil leak causing the gas to leak out
Put some pressure on the dealer, they've been in the engine bay messing with pipe and it worked before they did that!

Had that with my Merc except 3 times over 3 years (Every June) Dealer said it needed a new compressor. Bought a Can of A/C sealer repair in the US (Walmart) $20 DIY job! Still working today 3 years later.

Cheers Mikey. I've emailed them, no response yet so I'll call them on Mon morning. Really need a car this week though! Hoping they'll give me a loaner whilst they sort the aircon and the scuff. I bet that Welsh route in this weather was stunning.
