Hello All

Does anyone know or have a list of differences between the two in terms of cover? I believe that the Extended Warranty is reduced cover over the 3 Year Factory Warranty.

Thanks
Sukh

I understand that Aston have recently introduced a premium guarantee for older cars circa £1800.
I am having a problem myself deciding whether to take it out next month.

That's a fair chunk. Might be worth leaving it and putting it to one side for repairs.

Well it's a much discussed topic on car forums with choice depending on one's risk appetite .

It is it would be made easier being able to compare the level of cover of each AM offering side by side

I have spoken to the head of works dept .at a main dealer and he said that before the recent intro of the premium gaurantee some owners were disguntled when common "faults" were not covered.
Personally I would not have bothered to spend circa £1500 on the previous "best" level of cover knowing that fact.
However a belt and braces cover is a more attractive proposition.
I am going to my main dealer to have a chat about the subject although I am trying to convince myself not to take the cover.

Hi
I have a 2008 V8 Vantage roadster and have paid for the warranty for the last two years.

In those two years I have had two problems that the warranty company would not sort for me.

The first one last year was the engine warning light appeared and after the dealer checked was an oxygen sensor.
I was informed that the warranty company instructed them to reset the system and only if the fault reappeared would they
Install a new £85.00 sensor.
So I had done a 40 mile round trip just to reset the computer I could have done that myself.

2nd was a paint issue on the passenger door and despite the dealer and Aston Martin agreeing it was a manufacturing fault
The wanted me to contribute £400 towards the cost of painting the door.
I assume the think most Aston Martin owners have more money than sense as after refusing to stand down the dealer agreed to cover the full cost of the work.

Hence I will not be buying another warranty and will think long and hard as to wether I buy an Aston again.

What a pity as I love the car and have spent a fortune having upgrades done all at the main dealers.
The experience just leaves a bitter taste.

Just my tupenneth worth

The paint fault has been very well discussed here .
I have a squelly noise when I activate the passenger door .
The main dealer collected the car and works said they would investigate .
If it just needed oiling it would cost circa £100.
If more serious it might / would be covered under warranty.
I really do not know if that is o.k.or not.
I cannot expect a car to never have an occasional problem and I cannot expect the dealer will fix it for free.

I decided to buy a 36 month policy with Warranty Direct Lite. At £333 pa I thought it was ok especially if something major went pop. It's also transferable and you get a bit of the premium back should you decide to cancel or the car gets nicked during the term.

I accept it's no where near as good as the proper warranty but this one is considerably cheaper and provides some level of peace of mind. And yes it's a complete waste of money if it never breaks down or a great decision if the gearbox or head gasket goes tomorrow.

That's what I decided to do.

Like many similar things, if you can afford to cover it off if something very bad happens, you're better off without it, on average.

Everyone's situation is different though.

Obviously your choice.
BUT I would not want the aggravation of having to fight to get a problem sorted when I know I am buying an inferior warranty.
I would prefer that if I took a warranty it would be as good as possible and then at least I could fight like hell if necessary ( not that I relish that).

Not sure if there will be anything to fight for ............ they will only pay for the things they say they'll cover in the event of a breakdown - all the things on the exclusions list will be down to me. Many exclusions apply to AM warranties for cars over a certain age.

So are we any closer to establishing what IS covered on the extended warranty and what difference the Premium warranty adds?

You need to check the small print and compare like for like with these different products

I think the main issue with these "warranties" is that everyone assumes they are extending the SAME level of cover they have had on their new car for the first few years. Most of the time the extended "warranties" are more like "mechanical breakdown insurance" and dont cover so many of the minor niggles

at least if you buy from the aftermarket like Warranty Direct, you understand this from the outset and pay accordingly

its when you are offered the £1500 "extended AM warranty" that turns out to be similar to the £400 warranty direct offer that its not so good

I guess this is what AM have decided to fix and offer the "premium warranty" which should be similar level to the real factory warranty you get on a new car, albeit at a price

...it dosnt take many visits to a dealer to troubleshoot random MIL faults, at £150 an hour, really eats into the profit of any warranty company .......so you pay accordingly

I am going to my main dealer to discuss the premium cover and also to meet the head of service .
For me this is the right approach as I want to meet the person with the real knowledge in practice.
Asking for facts here however helpful will often be anecdotal and it appears that similar problems are dealt with differently almost regardless of what the Warranty states depending on relationship with your dealer.
I am not trying to be controversial just to be helpful.

I emailed the dealer, no response yet.

The premium warranty is quite pricey, I'd rather not buy that product or the extended warranty (especially if the level of cover isn't the same).

yes too often its not made clear what the differences are which was why I suggested Sukh start this thread
He (and I) would like to understand what is covered (or excluded) from the 3 different options so we can make an informed decision on cover vs cost

Mikey I can't answer your question directly as I don't have warranty on mine. However (knowing you are not a fan) I would hope that the new "Premium" product is at least as good as the offering from LR. Basically their "Premium" product matches the factory 3 year warranty. They also offer a cheaper version. IIRC thay have a little chart showing the differences. Surely !!! AM offer a similar little chart scratchchin
