hhmm, I might be leaving the fold....
Discussion
My wife has unfortunately had some health problems for a while now and we've reached the stage where we might look at her ditching her work and just being with the kids all week. The downside of this is that the lump I pay out each month for the DB9 starts to look very very frivolous on a single income. I love the car and I would look to get one back at a later stage, but family has got to be the priority over boys toys atm.
It's not 100% at this stage, but I thought I'd ask everyone on here how best to approach an 'Aston Sale'. The dealer hasn't come back with exact figures as yet, however I believe it'll be about £10k down on my purchase price (£62k). They have suggested acting as a broker and selling it for me for 7.5% + VAT + Costs. The later may be a better offer, however I know that as a very early MY09 it is in high demand and it in great shape, hence my hesitation. Do people buy DB9s privately? Not sure what to do about the whole thing TBH.

Doug as said earlier family comes first.
Believe me Astons are in demand I emailed a couple of AM dealers to see what interest there was in my Vantage N420 and within 10 minutes one was on the phone and we were discussing figures.
I agreed a figure with my "local" AM dealership and then tried an Indie and realised afterwards I could have increased the sale by at least £4K as the Indi would sell for £3k plus VAT so this may be the best route for you but may take some time.
PM me if you want more info.
And I still lurk the AM forum but also the Porsche and Jaguar forum at the moment until I fill the garage with something.

Nothing to lose by trying a private sale on Pistnheads - I have sold many, many cars on here
Dealer will try and maximise their profits; how can they not, it's their business. But the net result is you'll take a big loss
Selling via a respected indie like McGurks will take a lot of stress and probably return more money than a dealer though.
Sorry to hear, but it's only a car, family come first.

You mention warranty transfer....
When I bought my Vantage, privately, it was still under warranty.... It was a straightforward transfer from the existing owner to me...
I just filled in the warranty booklet with my new details, and it all came back in my name...

^^^^ What he said. I bought privately and the AM warranty was easily transferable, just fill out the form and send it off. Sorry to hear about the family, and you can always get another car. Great advert, honest and well written.....can't see it taking too long. Good luck.

Thanks. Hopefully I'll get some luck from PH, otherwise I'll use the dealer broker service probably to guarantee a sale I guess.
With regards to the warranty, was this an extended warranty you both spoke about or the original warranty that was still left on the car?
Cheers.
Extended warranty for mine as well. With regards to the warranty, was this an extended warranty you both spoke about or the original warranty that was still left on the car?

Just wondering what you guys do when the prospective purchaser wants a test drive.
Not an unreasonable request.
This bothered me for a variety of reasons eg. Insurance .
How did you handle this ?
Judgement call. Or www.dayinsure.comNot an unreasonable request.

Quotes don't seem to work too well for modern Astons.

I bottled it and gave mine to a dealer s.o.r.
Told him what I wanted and he made the profit he wanted.

State in the ad that test drives will only be with 'printed confirmation of fully comprehensive insurance for the driver'. This leaves the responsibility with the buyer to sort it out. Not an unreasonable request.

Of course, 'demonstration drives available to all (except tyre kickers and test pilots).'

Fair enough but I still would feel uneasy.Of course, 'demonstration drives available to all (except tyre kickers and test pilots).'
Can you imagine the hassle if the car was crashed.
Would you be able to take it to an Aston specialist for example ?
For me the cup is half empty on this one.

Well, indeed. But don't forget, the seller (ie you!) will also be in the car. If you feel that things are getting too hairy, just stop the test drive. Can you imagine the hassle if the car was crashed.

Also, you are also under no obligation to give a test drive, even if the correct insurance is produced. If you don't get a good vibe from the prospective buyer, then just don't go for the test drive.
It is, after all is said and done, just a car. It might say 'Aston Martin' on the front but its not made out of pixie dust and unicorn hooves.
