So this questions comes up all the time on the forum, but I thought a poll was perhaps the best way to measure the overall experiences of the members here.

For those who aren't aware:
AM Premium Warranty (cars 0-10 years old) = £1800/year for a V8
AM Plus Warranty (cars 5-10 years old) = £1400/year for a V8

Premium seems to cover more electrical bits like stereo/sat nav/door latches etc, Plus is for core mechanicals but I recall reading somewhere it doesn't cover oil leaks and a few sensors (eg. O2 Sensor).

So get voting people!

My car is a MY07 and came with the AM Premium warranty when I purchased it earlier this year. I have had lots done to my car under warranty so I have been grateful for it.
I have 6 months left on my initial warranty, however, I will be purchasing a new AM Premium warranty as I would prefer to be armed with the AM Premium than not.
There is a lot of talk about the warranties and I remember someone saying it all depends on your risk aversion, which is quite right. I would rather be prepared if something goes wrong, as I am taking into consideration the age of my car. Touch wood I hope nothing does go wrong, but I am not going to play the "it will be ok" game, leave it to chance and then find I am stuffed with a huge bill when it goes tcensoredts up!eek
Anyway, that's my thoughts on the matter.

Yes so did I on the premium one - but speaking to dealer about differences today suggests that the "Plus" one wouldn't have covered it.

Nice one.
My warranty up for renewal end of August ,thinking about not renewing, undecided as yet.
Thing is regardless of outcome of poll it still comes down to personal preference or spare cash .

I too am in the didn't pay and no regrets. Not saying there have been no issues, but the magnitude of them means that I'm still a couple of grand in the black. I'm not sure any of them would've been covered in any event.

My car came with 15 months AM warranty which I renewed for a further 12 months but apart from a very slight leak chain cover no problems up to date. I've been without warranty for 18 months now

I'm waiting to find out as in my first year out of manufacturers warranty. I took the decision to do without and bank the only. Up to now I've had to pay out £299 for a new TPMS sensor and outside temperature sender.

I'll be able to vote in November!

Unless you add an option of waiting to find out of course!

Ive posted the details a few times, my 2006 Vantage has been out of warranty for 4 years. Done 64K miles and had a few faults like;

thermostat
wheel bearing
coolant sensor
now the aircon compressor

none of which are more than a few hundred quid per year in non routine maintenance

so im quids in versus the £1500 warranty ive managed without for last 4 years

think about it. Statistically the odds are that you take out a warranty and the warranty company wins. They have to otherwise they wouldnt be in business smile

Its the odd scare story of a big bill by "my mates mate down the pub had a nightmare with that car and sold it" stories on the interweb that keep warranty companies in business....just like any kind of insurance, you hope you never have to claim on it and the majority never will

so I guess it depends on how lucky you feel smile

Mine ran faultlessly in its first year of my ownership, so decided against renewal of any warranty cover.

So banked the money. Glad I did.

Surely the whole point of an extended warranty from a manufacturers perspective, is to make a bit of money; they know what to charge on average to make a small profit, otherwise they wouldnt do it - they are hardly going to want to lose money on offering extended warranty's overall! So on average you would expect it to not be worth while in taking the warranty. The problem is that the average is based on many cars whilst you and I only own one car (some lucky buggers more!) so if you are unfortuante enough to have a problematic car then the warranty pays. Bit of a vehicle lottery isn't it!

(edited - sorry bogie, think i was writing a similar point at the same time!)

The AM extended warranties are provided by a third party and are not AM products, so AM don't make anything from selling them. I'm sure the dealer would get a commission though.

Dealers are very willing to try and get everything possible done under extended warranties though as it is good business for them to fight your case to get warranty company approval for repairs.
