Gents,
I was cleaning the car today and started off with Maguiars bug and tar remover. Sprayed it on the nose and wing mirrors, the usual leading edges, left it for a couple of minutes to do its thing as per the instructions ( I hasten to add I've used this product before with no problem). Then wiped it off and proceeded with the rest of the cleaning(lambs wool MIT, 2 buckets etc etc) lo and behold, the excess Maguires that had dribbled off the wing mirror has now seemingly eaten into the paint on the door and I now have very obvious marks or stains or whatever you want to call it ruining the paint. They are too faint to show up in photos or I would post them, but they are all too visible to the naked eye! I am both gutted and furious!! I will be contacting Maguires to get their take on things, but In the meantime was wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem with this or similar products?

Doesn't appear to have anything in it that would do that.

It's probably just removed any polish / sealant where it has been left on. A good polish should sort it out for you.

On a BMW I had a few years back a bird kindly left a "deposit" on my bonnet ... when removed it left a patch that was slightly lighter than the rest of the car, almost as if the paint had been "bleached" a little bit.

I left it for ages thinking there was nothing I could do, but then prior to selling thought I had nothing to lose by trying to remove it with a light rubbing compound (Meguiars ultimate compound) ... I literally only applied lightly by hand, a few applications - it completely removed it. I'd give it a go! It might only be the surface of the top coat that's been damaged by something (whether it was the megs product, or something else).

Was the product left to dry in the sun or did you wash it and dry it in the shade/cool?

Try Autoglym super resin or the like first, compound is probably too severe for what's needed here.

Have you tried putting some of the product on a cloth and wiping it over? Many products out there that either dry on or you leave to cure too long, can be sorted by reapplying.

If like you said, it's done something to the paint, then you've got nothing to lose in trying it. Then simply rinse off again.
