Strangely quiet Premium Hifi
Discussion
Whilst attempting to connect my iPhone5 to the old-style Apple connector fitted to my 2006 V8V using an adapter, the system took ages to tell me the iPhone was unreadable. So I hit the CD button to toggle it back to USB which is what I have always used. The display now looks like the USB is playing but I get no sound at all. If I toggle to CD, it is the same it looks like it playing but there is no sound. By contrast if I put it to radio the thing works fine - the usual pumping output from the Premium system. Any ideas??
For the record....
I went back to square one, disconnected the battery and reconnected to give the system time to reinitialize. Still no sound from the CD/USB/iPod option and full operation from the radio and satnav audio. Reconnected the iPhone 5 adpator and switched on the iPhone5 before connecting it - after some time of showing loading (well the equivalent in French - my car is Francophone) it came up with unreadable again....and no sound from CD or USB either as I quickly switched to them to find out. I then disconnected and connected the iPhone again and after a period of time got the unreadable message again. I sat staring at this for some while in a bit of a sulk, but when I toggled to CD and USB this time there was sound!!! Which is where I am now.
To sum up - 1) if CD/USB/iPod sound goes missing after connecting something, keep reconnecting and allow a certain amount of time after reconnecting before giving up. 2) If you have the retro-fiited USB/iPod kit on a pre-08(?) model dont bother buying the f**!ing expensive adapter to connect an iPhone5...
