Sportshift Vantage Reversing question
Discussion
Hi All
Having posted earlier about my new to me Vantage I wanted to ask about the sportshift box in particular reversing with it. When in 1st the car will creep (hope thats the correct term)and you need to hold it on the brake if you don't want to move however in reverse this doesn't happen and the car will actually go down a very slight slope forwards even though reverse is selected. You then have to use quite a lot of revs to get some backward movement and it then kangeroos as you give it revs and then back off as it,s started to move a bit quicker than wanted. Is this normal behaviour for the box?
Thanks
Kevin

Hi Richard
Hows it going ? looking at your profile i thought you had a 997 or have you got that and the Vantage. Seems a strange way for the gearbox to work, always feels as though you are frying the clutch when its on a slight slope and with full lock on, bearing in mind that is only reversing off the road into the garage so its only the 4 or 5 inches to reach pavement height via the drop kerb.

Creep I can understand, the reverse one I can't but am sure I will learn to accomodate. The rest of the car more than makes up for it.
The reason why it "always feels as though you are frying the clutch" in the SportShift box is because you are; both in Creep and in Reverse.Have you tried the clutch learns? Does make a difference on mine.

V8 Vantage:
Sportshift 1 (ASM1) Whilst generally good and liked by owners with it they do need a clutch learn occasionally to get the best / smoothest gear change
From cold and with the air conditioning turned off, foot on brake and start car, hold brake for 10 secs or so until you hear the clutch 'click'. Switch off and then repeat the process 3 or 4 times. The immediate difference is how much smoother it became at slow speeds, for instance manoeuvring in tight spaces in now a lot easier than when it would lurch forward before.

Thanks Dave and Mike
I do a clutch learn every time I start off and the dealer has done a forced clutch learn ? I guess it is something i will get used to, I will try doing the learn 3 or 4 times straight off when I go out later though to see if it helps.
Thanks again for the replys gents.
