Hi,
I'm a new V8 Vantage owner.
I have had my car (2007 - 07, 33k miles, manual gearbox) V8 Vantage since last Thursday.
When warmed-up there is a noise like "gravel" in the transmission, or driving over loose road grit! This happens mainly in 1st and 2nd gear with the clutch engaged and bringing the power in. Don't notice the noise so much when it's cold.
Brought it from an AM main dealer and am dropping it back to them so they can have a listen. Just don't want to get fobbed off!
Any ideas what it could be please?

You can get driveline take-up noise in V8Vs and V12Vs. Not sure I would describe it as sounding like gravel though. Best idea is back to the dealer. If it is serious then they should cover it as you only just picked it up. I assume you got a warranty.

As above. Could be noise from the carbon prop shaft, which is quite normal, but better get it checked. Best of luck with the car smile

Had the same thing in my 06 V8V, the dealer paid for the gearbox oil to be changed (N.B. updated spec Castrol BOT270a)It made an enormous difference in the way the car pulls away, much smoother, much 'lighter' in pulling away much less likely to get the noise now.

You must have the updated spec oil mind

I have something similar on my 2010, and I think it's been discussed on here before. Was talking to a guy at Silverstone this weekend with a 2012, who had the same noise. I'd probably describe mine more as a vibration/grinding, at low speed. It gets a lot worse when the car has been on a long run, and fully up to temp.

My dealer has investigated and said they all do that, I'd be interested in any solution you find to yours.

Do you still have the Noble or has the V8V replaced it?

This is pretty typical. It is often referred to as "marbles or rocks in a coffee can" while accelerating from a standstill. Mine does it too.

Mine didn't do it until I got the BR sintered clutch, but yeah it's vibration causing the carbon prop to resonate. You get used to it.

I've heard it in a sports shift car too.

Mine does it too... I asked the dealer and they told me a similar story about all of them doing it. I was also told it was caused by changed gear at too low RPM. Must admit, it doesnt happen if i change at a high RPM?

I think I can picture it, is this when the rpm is at around 1000 or a bit less? If so, a bit more welley will sort it out.

Mine does it too Foxy, only on pulling away as I tend to keep the revs low to save the clutch! Nothing to worry about. smile

I think this 'problem' is common to transaxle cars. Corvette C6 models with manual transmissions all do this when pulling away from a stop with the revs too low. As was said earlier, 'marbles in can' and it is coming from the driveshaft support bearings, supposedly.

+1, and mines a sports shift. Nothing to worry about, someone told me that it's very much like the sound Ducati makes at low revs, but not knowing anything about motorcycles, was just happy with the correlation to an Italian super bikes.

Took my V8V to AM dealer today, they're going to replace the gearbox oil and see if that sorts it. As was said in earlier replies, it's a common problem.
Thanks for all the advice.
Will let you know how it goes.
