Hi,

I've been browsing the forum for a while after buying my V8 Vantage 08 Roadster getting a lot of useful information from previous discussions. I am living and working in Dubai and getting frustrated with the level of service from the AM service centre here and to be honest its detracting from the enjoyment of the car. I've 'hopefully' managed to upload a few photo's below:

I am looking for some advice on the following issues I have had:

Firstly, the tyre pressure monitoring - I have had all sensors changed but still have intermittent faults of which AM have tried on numerous occasions to rectify but unsuccessfully. They have told me to drive the car for the next 4-5 days to see if the TPMS light will eventually go off!!!! Not really what I'd expect from AM...anybody else had the same response?

Secondly - The car cut out on me randomly and I had to pull over and start the engine again. This has never happened before and was very unexpected. Anybody else had this or can suggest root cause?

And finally, On a one or two occasions I have tried to accelerate hard from 2nd or 3rd and there has been a big dip in power as if I am engaging the clutch and then it pulls normally. Any thoughts?

I must reiterate, the issues above regarding power delivery have only happened once or twice but are obviously cause for concern and would appreciate your thoughts?

Just to note, the car is 2008, 27k Km and full AM history with extended premium warranty.

Looking forward to some input.

regards,
Andy

Welcome Andy,

there is at least one thread detailing the cutting out problem you've been experiencing.

I had it on the Vantage I had at the time and it's pretty unsettling (I had a few brown trousers moments) when it happens.

From memory, several owners had the problem rectified in different ways but mine was never fully sorted.

Have a search for the thread.

Nice looking car by the way.

hi andy nice car, think the third prob maybe the early days of your clutch slipping! exact same symptoms as my last vantage. try accelerating sharply in 6th gear going up a hill etc or somewhere that would put the car under stress.

Thanks for the input.

I'll try a search on the cutting out problems but plan to call AM tomorrow regardless.

I have recently had the clutch replaced (last 2 months) and therefore would be concerned if it was slipping...might be worth noting I have the marbles in a can noise at low rpm, not sure if this has any relation to the issue or is just a trait of the car.

The car is pearl white with red leather interior and red callipers which I think works well. It's pretty hot through the summer months here so the top is up 24/7. Looking forward to October when it cools down.

On mine, the cutting out completely, and momentary loss of power, were linked to the same problem and were nothing to do with the clutch.

Hope you get it sorted as it's a worrying problem to have.

Cutting out @ idle? - could just need the throttle body cleaning
The TPMS is a PITA and the dealer is right it can take ~20 mins for it to sort itself out, glad I move from the old system to the new one on my S

Tend not to look at them at the weekend as they are on my work PC hehe
Both my roadsters had the fuse box with 15 & 22 for the exhaust in the far left hand side of the boot (opposite side to the tyre crap)

First one is an easy fix - just remove the system. It's under the glove box sitting on a plastic rail - unplugs from the back. Pain in the backside and they never give accurate readings.

Second sounds like the throttle body which does need cleaned form time-to-time. Google search will bring up loads on it - this is a Porsche but same issue - http://www.6speedonline.com/forums/997/291986-thro... - makes the car cut out form time to time.

Last one is your clutch I'm afraid. It's slipping. MIGHT be related to the throttle body sticking and not letting in enough air but unlikely. Trying point two first but sounds like you will need a new clutch.

Nice car - enjoy.

I had the cutting out problem, two or three times. It's not happened in about a year, so I guess something someone did at some point fixed it. It didn't happen often enough to figure it out.

TPMS is a pain, mines started playing up recently, I think it's worse in hot weather, but I'm not sure.

Marbles in a can is vibration in the prop, They All Do That Sir. It's harmless.
