Want to switch out of my long time Ferrari habit into an AM. Love the sound and look and narrowed it down to DB9 or DBS but struggling to understand the key differences. Also can't seem to find any 2011 DB9s for sale, did I miss something or was there an upgrade which stopped people buying new back then. Any big service/recall issues I should be mindful of?

Would appreciate your thoughtful help and insights

The key differences are lots of carbon panels and more panel.

But, the single best purchase that you can make in your search for an Aston is this: http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

£20 and it will explain (in detail) all of the differences between the various models and the various updates throughout the years.

Bravo73 suggestion re the 20 squibs is the best. The DBS and Virage were dropped from the line up when the new DB9.2 and Vanquish.2 were launched end of 2012. If you can stretch to the DB9.2, it has more torque than the DBS and the latest generation V12 engine, as fitted to the new Vanquish (knock control and VCT),,,,,,whatever that means. confused

They all but stopped making the DB9 then and switched to the Virage for a year or so before launching the DB9.2 Virage VINs are in the same sequence as the DB9's

Nothing wrong with either but the DBS is more powerful, faster, lighter and more agile. It is lower, 20mm wider at the front and 40mm wider at the rear, with a more aggressive look and dare I say more road presence. It has the semi-aniline leather, which has a very distinctive aroma. That would be my recommendation.

I can't comment on the DB9.2 other than to say it looks stunning, but I prefer manual to auto, and that is no longer available, and I prefer the 'traditional' strake rather than the 'Virage' style.

Either way, SO much more class than a Ferrari.

Have you been to the dealer and looked at both? Driven them?
Which one makes you smile the biggest when you look/sit in it?
Choice made.

^^^ This ^^^

DBS is more powerful, Carbon Brakes, switchable suspension, better looking (IMHO) & was the flagship product. If you are approaching retirement, smell of wee or have pipe and slippers, then DB9 it is yes

Alternatively try a proper mans car and get a drive in a V12V yes You will need to be young and virile to own one though, much like me old mate V12VWoollie hehe

You will also note much banter between DB9 drivers and Vantage drivers on here yes DBS drivers seem to get away with it, although being the JB car of choice they should not really.....

Given the choice details you have posted, the DBS gets it. As has been mentioned, the road presence alone makes it the winner IMO. smile They are stunning in black, stunning but keeping black clean is a pain. Enjoy whatever you choose, no matter which model, the bladdy things are mesmerising. yes

DB9.2 has all of these, plus more torque than the DBS. Looks are subjective, but I really like the look of the current DB9.
