Just had 4 days over in Suffolk on a mini hoon to gently break in "Seymour" and thought I might share the experience.

Now Seymour is our V8SR who went happily off on Monday on our "get to know" each other trip to Lavenham and the sunny Suffolk coast and who has performed
very well,as ever with Aston Martin the public's attention was drawn on sight or sound and we received many plaudits, waves and smiles.

Mechanically everything came together well and the only downside was the alarming brake squeal that appears to be worsening with the miles,I think thats
a common issue hopefully easily remedied and one I'll shall have to attend too sooner rather than later.

The cabin proved comfortable although stowage space is limited and the boot is cramped leaving you with some what of a packing crisis for those snap decision must
have purchases and those 6 extra pairs of shoes the wife must have with her at all times. With the hood up the cabin was considerably less noisey than I expected although
you need to turn the radio up on the busy motorway, vision is badly impaired with the hood in place especially at junctions when turning right,I found myself relying on
the wife for the word to go.....never a good idea as I found to my folly with that classic "your ok after this one" promptly followed by "I didn't mean that one"....rolleyes.

With the roof down alls well and you couldn't wish for better although the optional wind deflector is really a must if you want to exit retaining that well groomed look
rather than the one of someone having been pulled through a hedge backwards.Vision is excellent with the roof down and the wife now gagged,oh for sunny weather.

The quality internally is only let down by that old favourite the switchgear, some of it such as the indicator stalk feels cheap and some what flimsy IMO, the Sat/Nav
is an improvement but in this day and age still behind much of the competition to say the least including Kia.We will be getting a Tom Tom as we had several wrong calls.

The doors close with a reassuring chunk and the steering wheel and adornment of glass buttons and swaths of leather make for a tactile and visual feast, the
odd flash of carbon fibre only adds to the effect of class and that of pure Aston Martin.

Apart from the irritating brake noise that can only be likened to rutting Pigs, which is quite apt in Suffolk, the whole package seens to have evolved along way since
the first new era Vantages.

Maybe it is coming to the end of its run and it may be revised with an all new model in the near future but for anyone considering an V8SR I would fully endorse the move
as our friend Seymour has given us 4 days of smiles over 475 miles and wait for it.........returned 24.1 MPG.

Yes 24.1 mpg all achieved in Drive mode switching in and out of Sport when ever I felt it was needed to pep up the drive.Stuck in D can become a little lethargic, you
can feel the heaviness at the pedal from time to time.

Now I never touched a paddle purposely throughout the trip just to see what I could achieve after genuinely being shocked when I first drove steadily home from the
dealership and covering 120 miles with a return that struggled to match Mikey's famous 16,my previous V12V regularly delivered 22 plus and the V8 coupe prior to that
often posted a very pleasing if surprising 24 mpg.

I drove sensibly keeping to the national limits no more no less prompting STMBO to comment that it was like driving Miss Daisey, but with nearly 800 miles on the clock
now maybe soon a more sporting drive may be enjoyed.

Overall the car proved a hit and my driving style has adapted well to the ASM2 so bring on September and our Montagu Arms trip where hopefully I can create a tail back
of admirers whilst attempting to get 25 mpg plus in return.

If I had to rate the car and not being a Clarkson,Hammond etc but maybe a Cpt Slow I would give is adaptation of the Vantage an 8 out of 10 leaving 2 to be gained from
a few more BHP and those little features and fittings that really should have been shorted by now in what is not a cheap car, so thank you Aston for putting a smile back into
my garage but please come on and give me a Navigation System that won't leave me bemused, bewildered and lost.

Well thats my two bobs worth for what is a very nice car all the same even with Miss Daisey at the wheelthumbup

Nb,

Any one considering a mini break would do well to consider THE SWAN AT LAVENHAM,excellent food a friendly service all within a remarkable and most beautiful Hotel setting.

Nice write up. The brake squeal will steadily become worse. Take it back to your dealer who will supply and fit 4 large blue shims which sit behind the pads. Problem solved!

A trip to Bamford Rose will release about 45 - 50 BHP coupled with a lightened flywheel . It will rev so much quicker. Combine this with a twin plate clutch for a vastly improved gear change. If you would like better handling and quicker steering they can sort that as well.

Thanks Rob,

True the squeal is getting worse but I was carrying out the Dealerships theory that it would soon wear offrolleyes.

I e-mailed then on our return at lunch time but have heard nothing as yet, funny that really they always rang back when in purchasing moderolleyes

We'll have to have a chat at some point about mods and about BR as I know very little about both at this stage.Doesn't it affect your manufactures
warranty to start modifying a car from new,I must admit that bit does worry me as they always seen to have on going snags.

A bit more bhp wouldn't go a miss mind as I do miss the fluid power of my V12V and its raw and at times brutal power.

All food for thought mind.thumbup

24 mpg! = driving like Miss Daisey winkhehe

Mines had the dealer attempt the brake squeal fix twice with out success, best fix I've found until I can get the blue antisqueal compound (they are not shims Rob) is an occasional hard braking session, clears it for a fair while.

I'm not sure we can allow you to stay in the S club if you continue with that fuel economy winkhehe

I concur with Rob on the BR clutch & power mods having driven mine and Purdey back to back

Once you settle into to driving it "properly" wink I don't think you'll find it lacking in the handling
