You can buy a shorter arial. Yes you can remocve it completely, buy then where are you going to put it? Later models have it in the windscreen, which is then non heated. Steve on here has done it if IIRC.
Here's the thread:http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...
Hope it's of some help.
Yup I done it recently.
To completely removed you need to disconnect electrics so you don't blow fuse 65 (head unit).
Rear headlining cover out, unscrew, chop the wires.
Use a high powered internal amplifier, have it wired up to the chopped wires, mounted underneath the reading lights at front top of windscreen.
Small hole will need filling, and the roof re spraying.
Costs
Internal antenna £20
Fitting £90
Roof fill and spray £180
JD!

It's just something I really wanted doing as I thought it was an eye sore.
In fact the new internal antenna works way better for instant clear radio reception than the external tail.
It's really inconspicuous too.
I'll post pics later inducing close ups of the roof.
Yes it's a near on a few hundred quid (had the front grill sprayed black at the same time).
But each to their own eh!
