Who has sufferers from door handle corrosion?

Is it common?

If so how bad?

What's the cost to fix?

Do AM cover any costs?

Thanks

yes
seems common on early cars
dunno how much it costs to fix - depends on bodyshop
Some people have had contributions towards it, when under warranty/extended warranty or buying from dealer

if you buy private and are 3rd or 4th owner of a 6 year old car, then I dont think theres any chance any manufacturer will pay for a respray

My 05 V8V has a few bubbles on the passenger side door handle itself and a few little bubbles (1mm little buggers) and a few around the handle on the door skin... while looking around it (pre-purchase) I did notice but then figured its a 2005 car with 28k on the clock the odd stone chip would be ok... bubble/corrosion hmmmm.. but the rest of the car was sooooooo gob-smackingly gorgeous I sort of looked past it and figured i would get it sorted myself when it bothered me or appeared to get worse!
I compared it to seeing that Kate Beckinsale having really screwed up/oooooooogly feet... :-)

I'll post some pics of the offending area later in the week - as Kate is tucked away in her PJ's in the garage at the mo.

I will get a trusted body shop to quote and post - as maybe over winter I will get it sorted.

Is it a local touch up or has to be a door and bits have to be blown in?

Tends to be the whole door a average cost£600
AM might contribute depends a lot on the dealer.
And yes it stinks!

£600.00 to paint the door is way over the top and these quoters must think all Aston owners are plonkers.

A pukka respray on the door should be £150-£200. Add £50 for extra fussy and so if you are paying over £300 at most, you are being taken for a fool.

The problem is the whole door has to be taken to bits to do the job properly ......it's 4- 6 hour job hence the high cost

Agree entirely, the job cannot be done properly without stripping the doors completely

Funnily enough my other half just found some bubbling near the passenger door handle the other day. Only recently appeared, '08 V8V.

It doesn't really bother me that much, but I might get it fixed, especially if it will get worse if I don't.

Haha, yeah, that's pretty serious.

Also, three passenger doors is a lot.

[ I just deleted two spares BTW, incase anyone is wondering what this is about smile ]

Worth speaking to your local dealer about, I recently purchased an 09 V8V from a non franchised dealer spoke with my local dealer and they have obtained full payment from AM for mine to be repaired.
If they say no you haven't lost anything by asking.

I had my 07 V8V done. Drivers door around the door handle - usual. Aston Martin made a contribution. (Can't remember the percentage)

Just got the car back today for a repair to the corroded drivers door mirror arm. No contribution for this one but again, a airily common issue.

I've had bumpers and wings done on my wife's metallic black A3 and typically pay between £100 and £200, that's involved removing panels and significant masking, the work has been very good and totally invisible. I paid a bit more when I got my TVR done at a specialist (rear diffuser and front splitter) and that was a flip paint which is tricky, the body shop that did the TVR (plus a few others that I contacted) quoted based on good quality pictures so it was quite easy to get some good quotes. £600 seems very high to me, shop around but only get quotes from people that are recommended.

So if you have a good relationship with a dealer than that's going to help then! Regardless of extended warranty or not.

Would have to be honest that dealing with the paint issue, a wheel alignment and a check over of my new purchase is the extent of my dealings with Lancasters at Cambridge to date but the service from Scott and his team has been excellent so I would hope this is the beginning of a good relationship.

Yes...without doubt.

The above issues were spotted by the Dealer and fixed foc at the end of the original warranty.

Three months later one of my wing mirror stalks started to flake (as Mel notes above)...the Dealer organised for BOTH stalks to be replaced, foc as a gesture of goodwill.

Dealers at this level can be simultaneously useful and frustrating at times smile
