Washing the S today I noticed the only orange bit left on my indicators is the side ones in the wing (yeah I know wink )
I know you cannot change the bulb as it is not listed in the manual
So they must be sealed
I know a new one is around £25 from AM but that will have an orange bulb frown
I seem to recall some one found a Ford part that was identical but looked clear and flashed orange
Bloody search on here is worse than st and google is not playing ball either
Can anyone recall or point me in the right direction?

I posted on this mod a few weeks ago, its the one where the spray glue on my fingernails was pointed out as the only response!

As noone seemed interested, I never followed it up but you will find the old ones may be very tight to remove. 15 degree twist then they pull out.

You then unplug the bulbholder. The bulb is a normal "501" and just pulls straight out.

The Ford ones are not a direct fit as Aston cut away the bayonet slightly to get them to fit, so you couldn't just buy them from Ford.

Use some vaseline or liquid soap on the O ring when you install the new ones. Its pretty fiddley installing the bulbholders into the lamp without dropping the bulbholder inside the wing as its too big to pull through the hole completely.

I'm off to clean my fingernails now.

Gerry, did you manage to pull the bulb holder partially through then?
I can't see how I can change the lens WITHOUT removing the wheel arch liner to gain access to the holder inside.
Any advice gratefully received.

I bought the kit off ebay, but have fallen at the first hurdle. I cannot twist the old ones to pull them out! 2005 car.

Any suggestions? I have thought about drilling two small holes in the lens and using a pair of thin nosed pliers?

Question for Gerry..... if I do get the old ones off can I not just put the new chrome bulbs in the original bulb holder and fit the new lenses ?

Update... I found this on the AMOC forum. Is removing and refitting the wheelarch liner an easy job?

If you protect the wing with some masking tape, you can grip the old lens with long nose pliers to turn it but for chrissakes dont slip. If you break the lens, then its even easier to grip.

You can pull the bulbholder part throgh the hole in the wing, but not the connector. You can install the new bulb into the old bulbholder and then install that in the new lamp.

Dont forget you need to trim the bayonet on the back of the bulbholder or it will be mega tight trying to install it with the new lamp seal.

Yes, its easy but dirty and fiddley. If you can do it from the outside like I did, you will save a lot of time and effort.

You do not need to remove the liner on a DB9 (probably the same on the Vantage).
Just remove the screw which holds the liner in place at the 9 o'clock postion (of the whee)l.
Once removed its easy to peel the liner back enough to insert your arm in and grab the bulb holder.
2 minute job, no psyching required smile

My 06 DB9 ones are white already; does that mean someone already did the 'Puma' conversion on mine..?

No, the standard ones are white. However, they 'yellow' over time.

Ok I did it. Nice clean side repeaters with not a yellow/orange tint in sight.

Bit of advice for anyone else attempting this. As Gerry said, the old ones are best removed with a pair of thin nosed pliers, but important....you turn them CLOCKWISE to remove (at least on a 2005 DB9). The first one was a struggle for me as I was trying counterclockwise at first and couldn't work out why it didn't budge. I actually removed some screws on the wheelarch liner and tried to free it from inside before realizing.

Having removed the lens bit from the bulb holder (counter clockwise turn), tie a weighted bit of string tightly to the bubholder so it wont drop back through the hole. There is no need to use the new bulbholders, and in fact the original ones fitted more snugly to the lens bit. Just replace the bulb with the chrome ones.

As Gerry said you need to trim the bayonets on the new kit, use the old ones as a guide.

When fitting the lens bit to the bulbholder, I found that using a small screwdriver inserted from the top, I was able to hold the bulb holder in place while easily pushing the lens bit on and turning it until it fitted.

Then just refit using a bit of liquid soap on the rubber seal. If then, like me, you discover you have not shaved enough off the bayonet and cannot twist the unit onto the wing, have another coffee/cigarette/scotch (delete as appropriate)and repeat the above steps.

Thanks to Gerry and the other posters for the help.

Sorry for delay with the picture. The second one shows what they were like before. Not sure the pictures show much difference, but they do make a difference.
