Just had my renewal drop through the door £1000 for my DBS should i just pay it or shop around?
Normally i would but the value of the car worries me so hence my hesitation, one draw back your suppose to be with AMOC but i don't wish to renew any more.
What other companies are as good as Locktons i am with Admiral and if i did renew with them i have 4 cars it would be one big invoice ive not had a price of them yet.
Cheers

I've been with Locktons for a few years, never been an AMOC member though. Tend to avoid Admiral.

I was paying less than half that on my DBS with Admiral.

Shop around.

Honestly? There are far too many variables at play (location, occupation, valuation, age, perceived risk etc etc) to give any sort of usable opinions over the Internet.

Are you happy with the service from your current insurer? Yes? Then pay the premium.

Will you get a cheaper price if you ring around? Almost invariably.

Can you be bothered with the extra hassle? Only you can answer that.

Spoke to Admiral £600 for a 2 multi car policy lower if they tie me up all 4 cars and £600 from Churchill.

I have never claimed so can't comment on Locktons.

I don't track the car and all 3 give European breakdown cover.

I will speak to Locktons next week.

Of course there are many, many variables (but the OP did ask for input, after all).

That said, I always negotiate my insurance renewal as I really don't like the feeling of being bent over.

I've been with Locktons for 3 years now and didn't renew my AMOC membership after the first year. I specifically asked Locktons on the AMOC membership and they said I did not need to renew - you just have to be a member when you first take out the Locktons policy.

£1000 for a DBS doesn't sound too bad to me - I am assuming you have it insured for >£100k. I pay about £1200 a year on my V12V with Locktons but I live in a city centre and my postcode is statistically bad, even if my specific address isn't. Don't forget Locktons will insure the DBS for an agreed valuation for no additional premium, providing you get you dealer of proof it from your dealer.

As for alternatives, you could try a "Zurich Private Client" policy through a broker such as www.cheaminsurance.com

That's interesting Adam, I am insured with Locktons on my DB9V and pay £625.
However I was told on renewal I had to be a member of AMOC(,which I am).

I have saved this ink form a precious post:
http://www.alan-thomas.co.uk/aston-martin
Can't say anything about them other than he posted on this forum and may be worth a look?

Personally I always check around, cos as previous poster I hate being bent over by my insurance company who think its ok to shaft current customers rather than reward them for loyalty. I'm not sure how that works as a business model cos all that churn must be paid for through call centres and other overheads. My philosophy is that it's cheaper to retain customers than to constantly chase new ones? Or is just a minority of people that actually bother to check if they are being shafted or not?

Having said that my checking has resulted in a much reduced renewal with Admiral multi car, three years running now.

If any insurance bods can explain please I'd be delighted.

More Than increase the premium by up to 7% if you garage rather than leave the car on the driveway.

Go with Direct line, apparently if your car gets squashed, you get another one delivered in 5 minutes and you don't get a say in whether you want it or not.

They must think I was born yesterday. They probably get them from Arnold Clarke for trade price and tell you its worth the retail.

Yes but I pay nearly £1200 with Locktons for my V12V.
Why do people query other people's premiums when there are so so many different deciding factors that make up risk for an insurance company!

My post was in reference to the statement that you did not need to be an AMOC member after 1st year to renew.
I just put my premium in as an aside.
Most are aware of the different factors but it is arguably useful to get a ballpark figure.

Locktons offered a £40 reduction on the premium and I don't need to be a AMOC member.
Admiral is looking favourite at the moment.

They figured that you struggled to see over the steering wheel... And there was a 7% higher risk that you'd hit the wall at the end of the garage.....yes

From my own experience to date give Matt a ring on 01202754915. I am insured with Hiscox through A&T insurance. My 2 year old Vantage S was written off on the 28th of May. 2 weeks later I was driving a brand new one. They are very competitive, the level of cover is staggering and they payed out when I needed them to do so. To be honest that is all you need.

Catch 22, Andy.....If I can see over the steering wheel I can't reach the pedals....ergo the wall is redundant hehe

Paul, Hiscox are a very good company in a similar mould to Locktons but if you are shopping at Admiral then they are unlikely to be competitive.

Good luck smile
