My car came with only one key and remote. It is the old style remote that doesnt fit the dashboard.

So after much discussion, the dealer dug up a key, which fits the ignition and door, but doesnt start the car. It says "key error".

As for the remote, the original one stopped working initially. The spare one also doesnt seem to work in the sense that nothing lights up and the doors dont lock.

So, need help on a few questions.

1. If a remote works, what could be wrong with the car, for the doors not to lock?
2. How many remotes can be synced to a car at any one time?
3. if the key fits the ignition and turns, what else do I need to do in order to sync the key to the car?
4. If I bought a blank key, is it true I can get a ford dealer to copy my existing key?

Info gratefully received! My dealer and mechanic arent very clued up on Astons.

The key remote may just be the battery....if not it will probably be one of your door modules playing up...dunno about the ford bit...but if you look around you can replace the fob with a jag one...I believe up to 4 keys can be sinker to the car....but again main dealer with relevant software needs to do it.....
Sorry not much help....but will ask my contacts if they have any advice

The car ECU has to be programmed to the keys/fobs, which can only be done by a dealer with the right kit.

Hi all, if you buy a blank key your Ford dealer can copy and cut the key, most motor factors can do this aswell.
Or you can get a blank key from aston martin bits, if you give them your chassis number they can supply a key already cut.
AMB can supply the remote to.
Key and remote will have to be programed to your car by an Aston dealer though.
Hope this helps.
