Just wanted to canvass views on what people thought were the best 4 seater Junior Supercars/Grand Tourers available on the used car market for around £40k. Maserati Gran Turismo/Aston Martin DB9? It has to be something a bit cool but something which doesn't require one to remortgage their house to keep up with running costs.

To be serious, the DB9 is definitely not a 4 seater not even a 2+2 unless your children are the size of Jockman..
The Masi gt has more room in the rear and a good flash if that's what you want, some Ferraris will do the job.
None of these cars are cheap to run if things go wrong which is pretty obvious
On a good day budget say £2K p.a.

the db9 rear seats are in fact parcel shelves; at 6'0 tall, the drivers seat leaves 1" between the seat back and the rear seat squab....

Maser GT definitely an actual 4 seater, and would be my 2nd choice; first would be a Bentley Conti GT- proper fast, BULLET PROOF mechanicals....

My DB9 does 9.1 MPG around town (as I live in central london) so I spend about £70/week on fuel... and I barely drive; which brings me to my next point- why do you even mention running costs- if this is a concern, then don't buy a super car/performance car; buy a VW/ford....

I test drove a Maser GTS and would have to say if I was looking for a 4 seater, I would go for one.

Get a 4.7 with MC Pack as the sound is to die for.

The only reason I went for a V8V in the end was I have no real need for 4 seats and the Vantage was more sporty and nimble.

think you might struggle to find one for 40K........but the Maser is a great 4 seat GT.....but your looking at a 4.3

true...

I have seen the 4.7MC @ £45k during my search for cars over summer.

But you can get a 4.2 for £35k upwards, and the Autobox is very good to be honest.

Just hasn't got the theatre of the 4.7 exhaust note with its sports exhaust frown

Yeah as above; if you need 4 seats, it's not the DB9.

Maser GT; or save a ton of cash and look at a GranSport. An older car but some epic performance!

Bentley GT, in the right colour (i.e dark green, blue or grey without polished alloys) is a very classy car. Who cares what other owners are like. Always wondered what the W12 would sound like with a sports exhaust scratchchin

Could probably only afford the 4.2 with the Maser. What's the realistic mpg on that? The other option is a 911 - granted it's not really a 4 seater but running costs are a lot better? M5 is an option but is that justifiable as a once in a lifetime purchase - plus don't want to pull up to lights with a more sensible 5 series making one look silly...
