E class estate AMG. OMG,
Discussion
Took the kids to Mercedes Benz world and pre booked an hour in an AMG for £139.
Was allocated an E class estate. No worries got the kids in the back ( 3 and 6).
Words cannot describe how this thing went. 550 bhp the auto box in sport + was basically psycic.
I drove hard. At the end I suggested the instructor ( prof recing driver formula 2 for Merc.). Jesus he was twice as quick. . My kids were whooping with joy. IT WAS AN ESTATE CAR!
The session includes small track, big track, acceleration and breaking, skid pan.
I love my db9 but this thing was tbh in a different league - but equally I have not tried to rag my car to this degree
On BIG BIG thing is the paddles move with the wheel so they are much more intuitive. You don't need to move you hands to a fixed place, they are just there. Nice kit, up to date electronics, launch control as standard. Oh and look on autotrader, pretty exclusive - less AMG for sale than Astons.
So a. I will now flog our x3 and buy one and b. lucky aston for this partnership. I hope the gearbox is included in the deal
I appreciate praising something like is on this forum will probably lead to raised eyebrows, but go shell out the £139 and give it a whirl then comment!
Oh, and kids with legs fit in the back !
Will I swap for one. Who knows, but luckily the wife likes mercs!

When i got my 996 some years ago from Porsche at Tonbridge, the salesman took me on public roads and thrashed the living daylights out of it, I have never been faster in a car, i bought the car, and since then have bought faster cars, but never been able to drive them anywhere near as fast as that salesman drove the 911.... My point is , our cars can go MUCH faster than we drive them. Period.
I know the feeling! Just collected a new C63 AMG for my daily driver. This thing breaths fire! And the MCT gearbox you mention, it's like it's hard wired to your brain - intuitive doesn't do it justice when pushing on. Slightly down on power from my VV, but the way it deploys it with the MCT, I suspect it would leave the Aston wanting in a head to head (not that that's the he all and end all of course!)
I'm now torn and seriously thinking if I should part company with the Virage Volante due to limited use.....

James,
I keep looking at changing from my RRS to the C63 Estate but her indoors keeps moaning about the mpg as it would be a daily round towner
and general workhorse for carting the shopping and dogs about,so in the real world and with no salesman's hype what would you expect to
see........22 ish ?.
I can only keep trying to convince her as we tried the new RS4 Avant recently which would do I suppose but the boot was a bit to small for my
pair of Bullies and the other downside was she clocked that over the days test drive with me being gentle with it I could only get 19 mpg.
Must admit though the C63 probably would fit the bill better with its generous boot let alone the sound of the thing.

You mustn't forget the sight of the dogs ejecting through the rear windscreen when you put your foot down.I keep looking at changing from my RRS to the C63 Estate but her indoors keeps moaning about the mpg as it would be a daily round towner

I'm not convinced by the flappy paddle gear shift moving around with the steering wheel (the wife's XF is the same). Yes, it makes sense on a track where you keep your hands in a fixed position on the wheel. But for normal day-to-day use (where your hands slide around the wheel) its a pain in the backside
Still I'm looking forward to seeing what AMG engines will bring the Aston Party. If, as the latest Vantage magazine suggests, there's a chance of an AMG V12 with 600-700bhp, that will be "interesting"

Have to agree the AMG Mercedes are superb. But compared to a DB9 they are ugly as f
k.
I remember being driven round the alpine circuit at Millbrook by a race driver in a DB9. That was not only very, very fast, it was way faster that I'd ever achieve.
I don't need a faster car, I just need to extract the full capabilities out of the one I have

Get out of second gear then!

Saw a Skyline GTR on Saturday and mentioned to my son that it was quicker than my DB9. Thing is, when I was 10 I wanted an Aston, not a Nissan.
In everyday driving it makes no difference so I will stick to the Aston and leave the Nissan (Porsche/ C63 etc) for those who want pure speed

As soe know, I went from a V8V last month to the new E63.
Totally different cars, the V8V cannot get close to comparing with the performance of the Merc.
Without doubt the AM is the prettier car and if it wasn't for the awful clutch and that it was uncomfortable on long journeys, I probably would not have changed.
However, in retrospect, I cannot justify the V8V based on the only area it beats the Merc is in looks (in my opinion). The Merc is a superior car in all other criteria I can think of, again, my opinion. I want to love the AM more, I just can't think where it is better than the Merc
For me, the V8V has to be my 2nd car. I do miss it but have no hankering to go back to it.

Most of us should agree with this.....average roads too busy and can only give it the odd spurt where I live. AM is more than that!
