Hi guys, tonight i've experienced a problem with my car. While on driving at about 60-70 miles (accelerated from 20mph) i then slowed down and then stopped. While trying to accelerate again (not fast - normal acceleration) the engine cut off and this message came up 'Fault - No Gear Change Possible' (not sure of the exact wording but definitely part of it said 'No Gear Change Possible'). After restarting the for three times the fault was still there and no gear could be selected , both from the paddles and buttons.

I left the car off for about 5 minutes and then everything worked just fine.

The car is a 2010 V8 Vantage Sportshift and clutch learns are carried out (minimum of 3) every time i start the car from cold.

Now the strange part... A couple of days ago i've washed the engine covering all electrical parts and after that i've driven the car with absolutely no problems. The last two times i've started the car there was a noise coming from the engine (not constant) but that disappeared once the car warmed up. Speaking to my mechanic for the engine noise he suggested that due to engine washing the belts might have been causing this noise and he sprayed some silicone spray on them today. The noise has been reduced but not disappeared and when i called him again he said that he sprayed only a small amount and asked me to go back tomorrow to spray some more. Tonight during high speeds/high revving the noise was still there.

Could this be related to what happened tonight or could it be another problem?

Thanks

George

Hi George,

Sounds like two distinct issues, the gearbox one is something Mikey or one of the SS gang may know about - but if it's cleared and working fine now it may be nothign to worry about. If the belts are squeaking, thats a known "feature", but I am pretty sure they start louder when cold, and go as the car warms, so this should be looked into further. Good luck, I hope it's something simple!

Thank you Kris! I dont wanna risk leaving it as it is, but since i'm in Cyprus and there's no authorised service centre here i need some suggestions from owners who have experienced this issue. To be honest, i agree with you that the belt noise has nothing to do with the gearbox message.

Might be worth investing in a code reader from eBay, with no service centre locally - it could help you diagnose issues yourself.

I was in Cyprus in March, some cracking roads to drive - didn't see anything more exotic than a Boxster while I was there sadly!

My mechanic has the OBD reader (i suppose this is the code reader you are referring to-if not please let me know which one) but it doesn't read everything.

Yes, there are some very good roads over here! Since i moved back , me and some friends have created 'Cars & Coffee Cyprus' and we arrange drives every month for supercars on the island.

There plenty of Supercars over here, but you dont seem them often! Check the page on facebook smile
