Afternoon all,

Long term viewer of the forum here, albeit I haven't contributed too often myself! Great forum, has helped me out on many occasions!

Has anyone recently sold their V8 Vantage privately? If so, where did you advertise and generate the most interest? Other than in the PH classifieds of course!) AutoTrader hasn't generated many calls from serious buyers for me as yet...

It's not the best time of year to sell and to encourage serious interest you may need to consider the selling price?

You have not mentioned the model, service history or condition? Any serious potential buyer would try the usual outlets, here, auto trader or their local dealer so apart from the price why don't you ask for a critique of the advert from the accumulated knowledge on here?

Either that or off load to a dealer as a staright sale or as a sale or return?

As someone looking to buy one, all I can say is that I am looking at PH Classifieds, Autotrader and eBay Classifieds on a daily basis as well as registering with the AM Dealers email alerts for newly listed cars and have also phoned some dealers saying what I am looking for incase they have anything coming in that suits. All they dealers say they are selling their stock and actively looking to buy in stock so I imaging their asking prices are close to selling prices.

Looking at the cars for sale at Dealers I have a fairly good guide as to what I will end up paying (+/- a couple of £k depending on mileage/ultimate spec) so for a private sale I guess the price has to be attractive enough to make it properly tempting and often they aren't IMHO.

Not wishing to hijack this thread but as I am considering trading up from a 09 V8V to a DB9.2 what would be the advice for the best deal?

Clearly the price for my car is lower just now as it comes into winter but is it better to sell privately and negotiate a deal on the nearly new DB9 or just trade it In and get the best 'to change' figure?

Less hassle to trade it no doubt but a better deal?

Cheers

John

I think the dealers will always make out they are selling cars straight away but I am not so sure. I am also looking out for the right car and the dealer cars I have been watching have been for sale for quite some time.

When I was looking to buy this year I found the low mileage, right colour and spec'd cars sold very quickly. ( I missed out on 2 dealer cars because I couldn't make it there due to work commitments.......)

Black with Black Interior
Tungsten with Black Interior
Meteorite with Black Interior

Premium Audio
Sat Nav
etc etc

and the 2007+ model is a must in the 4.3 range.

There are still cars for sale 10 months on from when I started with poor colour and specs.

And now we are getting towards Winter the market has slowed.

The height of when I was looking at cars there were 130+ cars for sale on PH, and now there are about 100+ over the last weeks.

But what is the 'right' colour? Surely one should be buying the colour they like, not what they think someone else might like several years down the line? confused

The above is what I liked smile

And I went for Tungsten on Black with toys smile

And to be honest I would say 75% would say the above would get there spec. (Also that's what the dealers said)

Of course, but I think the phrase 'right colour' simply infers the colour(s) that are most desirable and thus easier to sell.

I bought a v8 vantage in Feb this year, I also found cars matching my criteria sold very quickly, I wasnt bothered about the new style seats, so the 2007 model year wasnt a deciding factor for me. I wanted Meteorite, black interior, premium audio, and sat nav, full service history, low owners, miles around 30k ish. My car also had the red calipers which were not a must have, but I certainly appreciated them.

Surprisingly there were not many cars that fitted the bill, and when they did, they seemed to sell fairly easily.

Maybe that's why I've had no enquiries about mine yet (although it's only been on sale a week)..?

I've read through the ad several times and considered the price and can't see anything else wrong frown

Which is your advert? Maybe we could provide some hopefully helpful comment.

It looks like a pretty good ad.

But, I imagine that buyers would be put off by a) private sale, b) lack of warranty and c) slightly higher mileage. (And probably d) the colour. It isn't the 'usual' grey/suicide black).

Lots of Aston buyers don't seem to be particularly adventurous nor brave enough to buy a non-warrantied car.

I think the advert is good, not a lot I can add really, the price seems broadly fair. I think you may have to just wait for someone who is looking for a car in that colour combo, thats all.

I am after Tungsten with phantom or black with toys. smile

The ones hanging around seem to be either MY06 cars (I guess folk prefer the newer seats) or have contrasting interior (I guess most folk like to play safe) or have higher mileages (I know it is subjective but given a choice of something at 20-something or 40-something thousand miles most folk would look at the lower one)

Thanks for the feedback everyone smile

Each to their own I guess. When I was buying, I was primarily looking for spec, service history, and condition (I was particularly impressed with the interior of my car - you've no idea how many tatty ones there are out there!). Colour wasn't a big issue, although I would probably have baulked at yellow, china blue or shocking pink. The dark blue is classy and understated and looks good in the metal. I just get the impression that most buyers that insist on greys and silvers are James Bond wannabes (present company excepted, of course!) biggrin

As for warranty - as far as I'm concerned, they aren't worth the paper they're written on. Anyone buying from a dealer has an element of legal protection for a limited period, but that is all. The price differential between my car and the next at comparable age and mileage is at least £3k, so about the cost of at least two years of (in my view worthless) warranty. Still, I might look into the cost of a cheap policy and add it to the sale price if it will draw some people in..? wink

I am just getting ready to part with my much loved V8V... A sad decision but a realistic one to make.... I will advertise on PH classifieds and may even use a well known car dealer to try and shift it for me....

I had a chat with said dealer yesterday who charges a one off fee of 1500-00 + vat and they take care of everything from photos to transferring funds.... A worthwhile option I think....

I will hold out for a good price on my car as it has been SO well looked after it will be a fantastic hassle free car for whoever buys it... But I do think that this time of year is a bit quiet... But then again, there is someone out there with a budget just looking for the right car regardless of that....

I will be back at some point, once I turn 40 I will buy a pair of slippers, a pipe and a DB9... LOL

I wouldn't get too hung up about having no calls yet.
I am selling a fantastic Mini at a great price in as desirable spec as you might want... and have had no calls about it all week either. frown

Re your ad: The colour combo doesn't do it for me, but at least as a Private Sale it is priced low enough to give a potential buyer something to think about when balancing Private vs Trade.

I went to see a car which turned out to be a SOR car just over a week ago. It was a nice car and if it had been priced as a private sale I am sure it would have sold. If it had been a straight forward Dealer car then I imagine the Dealer price would have taken into account the prep needed to get the car handed over. As a SOR there was so much faff and fudge about what would/could/might be possible in terms of prep that I am not surprised it it still there.

I love mine wink

Only got 18k on the clock and a 2007 model.
Just had it serviced as David Appleby Engineering and they said it was one of the best example they had seen for the age and mileage, as the previous owner never took it out in the rain and it lived in a heated garage, and never saw the salt on the roads in the winter months. (Which reminds me I did tell DEA that I would put a review and some pictures up of there facility)

Hold out for a good one, and don't compromise, as I nearly did! and very happy with the car I bought in the end smile

Wow Renmure, that's some car collection you have there! smile And as for that microlight... lick

I don't really see the value in SOR either myself - to me it's a halfway house that only works if you want to put the buying process out of your mind completely. However, my car is my only vehicle (aside from a restoration project) and I couldn't just give it away to sit in someone's dealership indefinitely when I might need to use it from time to time!
