So, worst case they're going to take an M-class and slap a gaping maw grill on it, awesome rolleyes

If it does for Aston what the Cayenne did for Porsche then I'm all for it, but there track record on "jointly produced" vehicles isn't the best...

What's this then ,guess the Topic ?
Seriously though,it's not pretty but then neither is the Cayenne but if it allows Aston to continue developing the cars we want to drive then that's ok by me.
The only other way is for the brand to be swallowed up by another big car company as they were by Ford.
It's the only way a smallish producer of luxury sports cars seem able to survive nowadays.

There is no contest obviously Tony but this is ,I presume, obviously aimed at the export markets of China ,India and the USA.
Presuming it will cost circa £120K it is aimed at a customer who puts the statement of the brand foremost i.e. I am driving a very expensive, blingy SUV.
The Range Rover has rather sewn up the market for function and design .
I am not a fan of the Cayenne but it's a best seller for Porsche.
Unfortunately as the exuberant styling of the new Vanquish shows that is where Aston is heading.

The original topic was something like "Does the Cygnet have a big brother?", but PH's mobile site ate it, or something.

Most people have no taste.

What really surprises me is how many people still buy them, even though the styling no longer stands out, it was the first luxury brand SUV, but that's not exactly novel anymore.

The most shocking thing is that I was up and trying to post on PH at 7AM - WTF. This work crap is messing with me.

I think a re-skinned M Class is most likely - dunno what the current one is like, but a mate's original one was a total dog's diner. Very badly designed and built.

Take a Merc GL (as already announced) and do what they did with the Toyota iQ would be my guess!

This is part of a much bigger problem for Aston Martin .i.e. Where are thy going in the next 20 years.
Their current models are face lifts of 10 year old models, no harm in that you may say,but that will not bring the expansion in sales to make the brand an economically viable proposition.
They will need a huge injection of capital to develop a new range .

Ah, yeah:

We’re told that discussions of a tie-up between Daimler and Aston Martin had been taking place on and off since the Lagonda concept began development some five years ago. While the dialogue of these discussions surely has changed since then—initially conversations centered around Aston using the Mercedes GL-class architecture to underpin a production version of the Lagonda—we think this is a much more exciting and promising fit between the pair of automakers.

Given the size of the badge on the front of the IQ mutant imagine how big the one on the new SUV is going to have to be, the wings will be massive, like you've just had a head-on with a condor.

Either way though, if it generates revenue to bolster the GT products then it may just be worth the shame of it smile.

yes all but the last part
What they need to do it get rid of Bez and Marek Reichman, then knuckle down to making the VH platform look more up to date.
AMG engines & existing VH would work well, they just need to make it look different so people don't think they are all the same winkhehe

If you put me on the spot today I would suggest .....
1. 2 seater sports car
2. Proper 4 seater GT with decent boot space.
3. 4 seater saloon ( think Quatroporte )
4. SUV ( required for export market)
5. Top of range ( at the moment the Vanquish)
This range would cover most of the bases .
It would obviously need to incorporate the the new technology to achieve lower carbon emissions and fuel efficiency.

Just seen this on a trade t'internet site......

"Porsche buyers are the most likely to spend big on optional extras, new analysis from HPI Spec Check has shown.

Customers ordering a new Cayenne luxury SUV spend a whopping £10,000 on factory-fitted options on average – well enough to buy the UK’s cheapest SUV, the Dacia Duster.

After Porsche buyers, consumers splashing out on a new BMW X5 spend the most, with just under £8,000 invested in extras."
