I'm going to spend a weekend driving around Snowdonia. That part doesn't need a route map; I sort of know the area and you can't go wrong driving around randomly.

Is there a good route there from London? I mean, a fun route to drive - M40/M6 is a bit boring. Brecon Beacons, then Elan Valley is one option. Are there any mustn't-miss roads?

Presuming that Snowdonia has its fair share of deer, and I don't want to put a dampner on your trip, but please be careful, two girls aged 18 and 17 lost their lives when they hit a deer on the A10 this week. It's rutting season, so take care.

The A5 is the old London to Holyhead road and it does have some seriously good bits !!!!

My caravan overlooks Snowdon (I'm starting to sound like Tuscanny Pete rolleyes) and there are some excellent roads if you catch them at the right time.

Get yourself a North Wales edition of the Daily Post too. Last time I looked it gives you the location of the static speed camera van so that locals can 'avoid' it.

His number of routes is rivalled only by his number of dodgy hats smile.

On Snowdonia and getting there, I could do with knowing what sort of thing you like
The "Friday 5" route from Gaydon will get you there but is it back roads (some single track including Triumphs old test route)
When it comes to routes once you get there I've got too many to chose from, where are you staying?

Highlights I'd suggest;
EVO triangle (if you've not done it before)
Elan Valley (though quite far South)
Either of the back roads from Bala to Vyrnwy
Lap of lake Vyrnwy
Most of the A470
Most of B4391
Horseshoe & Llanberis passes
A525 Horseshoe to Ruthin
There are LOADS more wink

I try to avoid the A5 too many slow coaches and too many plod, though this place does some great food www.rhug.co.uk
Oh and ALL my routes have a loop some where in them hehe (just to check you are concentrating wink )

eek
Is that a weekend? Too much!
I'd forget Cheddar Gorge it is a long old way to go just for an anticlimax wink There are far better roads/views if you go cross country to Elan from the M5
I'm presuming at D you are actually going to peel off and go round the Elan Valley (that's over an hours drive!)
Your exit from Lake Vyrnwy takes you back on to the main road, there is a great minor road from the NW of the lake over to Bala, though the B4391 is nice wink
Your Bala to Ffestiniog route is really nice, don't know why its taking you in to the centre of Blaenau I'd cut through on B4391
Rest look good enough for what you are after
Avoid goin through Brum on the way back though wink

Sir, your recommendations will be taken on board. I'll cut out Cheddar Gorge. The rest of the route is a guideline rather than strictly accurate, so I'll make the changes you suggest.
