Hello there,

As you may / may not know, I recently sold my 4.7 Vantage Roadster to bridge a short(ish!) term financial gap caused by buying a house, renovating said property and also getting married. Basically the cost of growing up...

The AM had become an unsustainable luxury, alas, but fully intend to be "back in the marque" mid next year.

In the mean-time I have (very) few pennies to spend on a runaround and thought I would ask the collective minds on the forum to see if they have any ideas / recommendations.

Criteria are:
- Budget is £6k
- Needs a hatchback and folding seats (I am now Mr DIY and spend more time at B&Q than is right)
- Whilst it won't have 420BHP, it needs at least a little bit of poke / sportiness
- I get a fuel card with work, so petrol vs diesel isn't really a consideration. Hence prefer petrol but would consider an oil burner
- I no longer have a garage (will rent for AM Of The Future), so it can't be too precious (the budget helps here!) or high maintenance given it'll be sat parked on a London street for most if its life
- Can't be st
- Not fussed about mileage, will buy on condition and history

My gut feel is either a Mk 5 Golf GTI like this

Or a 330i Sport Touring like this

If you have any experience of either of the above, or any suggestions, would love to hear from you.

Adam

Skoda Octavia VRS, estate or hatchback, diesel or petrol. Massive boot for DIY trips, punts along at a decent lick too.

I spent over 30 years working in West India Dock Road, E14.
When I first went there it was still a working dockyard,Lord has that area changed !
