Please could you put a double clutch gearbox in some of your models.

I've just driven a California & they're a brilliant box.

If there is a Mercedes-Benz equivalent, then presumably your wish will be answered in due course.

My plan is to continue enjoying my 6 speed manual. Old fashioned eh?

There is (e.g the SLS AMG has a Dual clutch box), but I stick to my manual too!

I was told there is not enough room for DCT
Funny enough I drove a Cali on Sunday and I loved it

By all means put a dual clutch gearbox in Vanquish or DB9, but please, please keep the single clutch system in V12V and V8V. Dual clutch is an manual automatic and suited a GT cruiser, whereas SS3 type systems are automated manuals and much better suited to a sports car.

SS3 in the V12VS is the best automated gearbox I have driven yet.

DCT is no less an automated manual than is SS3. The fact that it uses dual clutches to makes shifts faster and more refined doesn't alter the fact that it is a manual box.

All the different transmissions continue to confuse me, and perhaps others.
My confusion might be partly due, to the various car manufacturers using their own names and initials, for the same gearbox system.

Can we build a table to simplfy the subject?
I will start, and would be grateful if all you experts, would please correct and add to my information.

MANUAL GEARBOX
1 - INITIALS: None
2 - CAR MAKERS' OWN NAMES: None
3 - USED IN: We all know this one.

SINGLE CLUTCH AUTOMATED MAUAL
1 - SCT
2 - Aston Martin: Sport Shift version 3
3 - V12 Vantage S

TORQUE SHIFT AUTOMATIC including MANUAL GEAR SELECTION
1 - Don't know
2 - Mercedes: Tiptronic
3 - Mercedes: CLK 320 (1999 models onward)

DOUBLE CLUTCH AUTOMATED MANUAL
1 - DCT
2 - Don't know
3 - Ferrari: California
3 - Mercedes: SLS

SEQUENTIAL
1 - Don't know
2 - Don't know
3 - Motorcycles and Racing Cars

WHAT ARE ALL THE OTHERS?
Volkswagen have something, which I think they call DGT.

They are the 4 basic types, other than CVT types which don't apply to sports cars

Single clutch automated manual is also known as ASM. Ferrari called theirs F1 and that was fitted to all their cars across the range including Enzo until they brought out dual clutch (same system as in Merc's SLS) on the California and then brought it out across the range. Lamborghini & Pagani still use ASM

Aston's torque convertor is called touchtronic or TT, now TT2 IIRC

Dual clutch is also known as DSG within VW Audi group

BMW call single clutch automated manual, SMG. They call dual clutch automated manual, DCT.
