I was doing the school run this morning from Highgate to Hampstead. Stopped at the Spaniards chicane as a white van coming the other way took it so fast I thought he would crash. I heard a skidding soundand thought it was the van, but then heard a bang and felt a shove from the rear as a Corsa failed to brake in time and skidded into my car, breaking the rear bumper and the diffuser.

I was calm about it, took his details, drove my eldest to school, then continued to work. I filled up at the Old Street roundabout Shell and drove off back round the roundabout to head into the City when the red triangle came on with the "Engine Coolant Low" message. The windscreen started to steam up from the outside, so I drove gingerly back to the Shell garage and parked up. When I opened the bonnet, there was pink coolant on the engine cover and quickly a big puddle of it on the floor.

The car's been recovered to Stratstone now. I wonder whether the coolant issue is a coincidence or whether the crash dislodged a coolant pipe.

Bloody hell - not good. Would assume the coolant everywhere is part of the acccident damage- force of the accident being transmitted through the chassis to the engine bay.
Hope it gets sorted easily and the Corsa driver is insured.

Thanks, chaps.

He's given me insurance details and seemed genuine, so things look OK. PITA though!

Seriously though. Don't forget "diminished value" to the list of items to discuss with their brief.
Unless your motor is a certain V8S of course.
Sorry to hear it buddy, hope all individuals involved are OK.

This Corsa, wasn't pink was it????

Having lived up that way previously, so many people have had bumps exactly for the same reason. Hope it all works out.

I grew up in Spaniards Inn. My formative years were spent in that pub. I lost count of the number of accidents at the toll gate.

I echo the comment to get the repair done at Works Service. Hope you are back on the road soon. Out of interest do you drive down Aldersgate Street in the mornings from Old Street towards the Museum of London?

Sorry to hear the news Zod.

I actually saw your car on the back of the breakdown truck heading along the Marylebone Road around 12pm today..... I was in my V8V heading over to Chiswick and was alongside the truck at a set of lights. I was admiring how great your car looked when I noticed the damage to the rear. It didn't look too bad all things considered......

Hope you get it sorted and back on the road quickly.

That will have been it!

It's not too bad. A new bumper and diffuser and it will be as new. The mildly traumatic thing was when it dumped the coolant on Old Street roundabout. That caused a mild sense of panic as the windscreen steamed up from the outside!

Have you filled up at that petrol station in that car before ? I have only used that station twice and both times the underside of the car got scraped because of the steep run-up from the road - and that is in a Mercedes estate.... your car must be a lot lower.... could something have been damaged in that way ?
