I'm looking at some early va.ntage v8s, say on an 06 for around £28-30k

I've come across a lowish miler and I reckon I can bag it for £28k...it seems mint with famsh and a good spec......45k miles...

Now I don't intend to keep it too long, say until June next year

Provided the car is used as a weekend car can I realistically expect to get close to the purchase price back in 8 months time or will they hit sub 25k by then?

I appreciate this is all very speculative but idbe interested to hear your views/experiences

depends on how you buy as always ...from a trader or a motivated private seller i.e. someone who needs to get rid of it

buy private, cheaper and you could put a few thousands miles on it and maybe sell for the same, if not more

safer if its a lower mileage car so your own mileage dosnt bump it up too much

If you're only going to keep it short term, it's not going to lose much........ But who cares? Just enjoy it and don't worry about it. I mean this in the nicest possible way, but if a couple of grand or so Is going to bother you, then maybe Aston ownership isn't for you. Good luck, though.

Yes, that.

I might not call 45k miles low, even for a 7 yo car, mine bought last month was 36k miles (56 plate) and was the second highest miles I've seen (there was a higher miles one with a BR upgrade in London).

£28k seems a bargain (presumably private - if it's from a dealer, that's too-good-to-be-true territory), not knowing anything else about it.

Disagree......market research shows trends that can easily be picked up on.....

I've been watching v8vs for a while and values at the cheaper end of the market seem to be very steady.....the same can be said of the Audi R8.......

Careful market watching can make owning special cars less painful than one may think

I am hoping that listening to the experience/opinions of others here may assist in predicting where the market will be next year

Well, some values will go up. But most values will go down.

Your best bet to limit the hit of depreciation is to buy in the run up to Christmas and then sell it during the height of the following summer.

As to where the market will be? Crystal ball time. If AM were to announce the successor to the Vantage, then values of the current models will tumble. Is that likely? Who knows but Dr Bez...

You're considering the depreciation, but not thinking about what the repair bills will be like if it's needs tyres and brakes for example. Let alone a clutch. Both manual and paddle shift cars *can* go through clutches at quite a rate. Some people get OK milage from a clutch, but many get under 15k.

If ones being sold privately, for cheap, there will be a reason for that. I get the impression most role but through dealers. It's worth it for the warranty alone, which is pretty good.

I couldn't disagree any further with what you've just said.

People sell cars for all kinds of reasons, and in my view the warranty is worth diddly squat, since the things you mention like brakes/clutch etc. aren't covered.

And what does "for cheap" mean anyway? wobble

What kind of stuff are you having done? And how many years warranty have you been paying? Just curious.

Really is an interesting question, and I can see what you're trying to do - own a lovely car for zilch expense !!

You understand the market well, though I would add that the expected decline in prices last Winter did NOT really happen IIRC (Phil MakoV12V posted up some prices) but it DID occur the year before.

Best wishes in your endeavours yes

I'm sure he'd get back more than that. Of more concern would be whether potential buyers would be put off by the fact he'd only owned the car for a few months. I've had mine for over 2 years now and get the impression people expect me to be buried in it tongue out

I'm nosy as to the particular car to which Turboman is referring, and where it's advertised. I've checked on PH and Autotrader and my car is the only one which is listed at anywhere near 45k miles (and I wouldn't let mine go for £28k wink )
