Who puts away their car wet ???
Discussion
Now I know you need to dry your car before putting it away in the garage. But oh my god we are an island nation and it rains a lot. What a pain in the proverbial bottom. So own up who decides that life is too short and drives straight in, good night Vienna and a quick gin and tonic Who dries the car every time and goes into the house happy the work has been done. For the driers out there please tell me what is your routine and is it based upon science and are there any shortcuts. For the gin and tonic brigade, how do you sleep at night. Answers on a postcard please.

Straight in whatever the weather I'm afraid. I do have underfloor heating in the garage and keep it at a steady 16 deg so it dries out pretty quick.
I must not let my wife see this. I have told her 16 degrees is a reasonable temperature for the kitchens under floor heating. So if you are going to dry your car is it a full wash ?? first or a quick leather off. Are you doing more damage to the paintwork than you think. With a modern car does it really need to be dried off.bentley01 said:

Paddy's your man Darren (no offence Martyn
)I never dried mine off but there does 'appear' to be a correlation here between the flaking in certain areas of the car and keeping it exposed to the elements.
There ARE exceptions to this rule so I can only speak from my own experience

As a condition of my car insurance it has to be garaged at night. So if I get home late and it is wet it goes in the garage. As long as the garage has ventilation I doubt a modern Aston will shrink or rust away. I also have a dehumidifier but haven't used it yet.
My old V8V sat on my drive at night far the best part of eighteen months so suffered no worse than putting the car in the garage when wet.

Seems quite an expensive solution, I would have to feed Paddy, House him in some kind of tent in the garden just to bring him out when it has been raining. I'm not sure I would be able to afford it.

mine lives outside, although under a cover if left for more than a few days and/or expecting bad weather ...always after its been cleaned and dried (with nice soft towels)
the garage is a motorcycle changing room ....not enough room for cars until more garaging is built....
But surely all this wash leather and drying dirty cars is bad ? either wash it properly and towel dry or leave it to dry itself ...or maybe a leaf blower vac thing if you have one to accelerate drying in your dehumidified and heated garage
.. wiping a dirty car with a wash leather is just asking for swirly paint ....and an expensive visit from the detailing dude to put it right....

I keep my DB9V in an airflow chamber inside my garage and so she goes straight in when wet. It circulates 50,000 litres of air through the chamber per hour, so she dries pretty quickly.
I refuse to post a photo or a link to the airflow chamber site. I did this once shortly after I joined this forum and was told it looked just like Jockman, Cockers and George in gimp suits, photos of said individuals in said suits supplied. I have still not recovered.

It never goes away dirty. If it's pissing down when I get back, it'll be washed and dried in a day or so.
Garage queen? Hell yeah, still gets a good 9-10k miles a year.
Costs me more in snow foam than V-Power........
On the flip side, if you spot my old, nice Mercury silver V8 at Strats Wilms then you know it's been pampered.
