I Love my Cygnet..
Discussion
Yes, I am probbaly the only one on Pistonheads but there it is. So much so that I imported one from the UK, last month.
'You can't polish a turd', 'devaluing the brand' blah, blah blah! But is this really true? Let's think:
It is painted to the same high standard as the supercars and, for example, the grill comes from the same source as that on the one-77, every panel except the roof is unique to Aston Martin.
What about the interior? The seats, doors and fascia uses the same quality leather as the supercars and hand finished by the same craftsmen/women as who work on the supercars. So it lacks the beauty of its sister cars, but how could you have a City car with a 3 metre bonnet!
How do the mechanics compare? I am sure its reliability matches that of Aston Martin's. So, its engine is not built by AM, but in the near future AM may run Mercedes' engines and do we think Morgan are any less Morgans because they have BMW engines?
People need to realise its is a City car not a junior supercar. Leaving aside the build quality and finish externally and internally, compare it to any other City car. Most look CAD identikits, the Cygnet has a great face with 'jewelled' highlights. What similar car offers: disc brakes F&R (vented at the front), rear parking sensors, satnav, heated seats, 6 speaker audio and the availability of an auto, as opposed to automated manual transmissions. As for peformance it develops 40% more power than say a Peugeot 107 or the like.
OK, I am precudiced, but for me it is an unbeatable and unique City car.

I could refute each and every one of your statements, but what the hell (i've just deleted the page of drivel that I wrote).
It is great that you love it. Love or hate, it is rare, unique and one-of-a-kind.

as i've said before elsewhere (and on the amoc forum), i have every intention to buy one once they've done a bit more depreciating; will be a perfect reliable, safe car for my kids to learn to drive in and the rarity (i know there's a reason for that!) will make it a bit more interesting
now i wonder if i can persuade Bamford Rose to "breathe" a bit on one.....

Very pleased to hear that you are enjoying your Aston Martin. You must come to one of our gatherings. Perhaps next years continental trip. We need some participants who will not annoy the police.Every panel except the roof is unique to Aston Martin.

Don't forget to add the baby swan to your Profile Garage. You are not limited to six cars, three Peugeots, two Mercedes and a Jaguar.
Funnily enough, now that Cygnet production has stopped, I have now begun to see more of them on the road. I particularly like the blue ones.

To reply to a couple of postings above, yes I owned a Peugeot107 for 3 years so have driven an 'Aygo'.
My Garage in my Profile should now only contains three cars: the Cygnet, a long wheelbase S Class and an SL500. Not sure how to edit it.
Top Marks to AM/Lagonda! The Department of Road Transport here 'knew' that no such thing as a Cygnet existed, then they discovered the car has two VIN numbers (Toyota and AM) - that really freaked them. After one 'phone call to the supplying Dealer, within 24 hours AM faxed an excellent and comprehensive explanation of EU legislation on 'remanufacture of motor vehicles' which was completely beyond the understanding of anyone here, so has been accepted without further question. For reasons beyond any sane man, the vehicle has still not been registered here; but thats another story.

OK I'm going to admit it in public, but I'm with the OP on this one. If I were in the market for a small city car/runabout and money wasn't an issue then I would happily look at one of these. Not because it's wearing an Aston badge but because it's nicely trimmed and an economical runabout. I think there's been quite a bit of snobbery about the Cygnet which is unfair as there is nothing wrong with it for what it was meant to do. My only real issue is the price tag for what is a Toyota in pretty dress. If this was marketed at £15-25K and had a few engine tweaks they would have sold by the bucket load.
I think it takes some stones to drive one of these, not because of the car but because of having to face others (unjustified) piss taking. Well done Briano.
