Yes I did. The car is 4 years old today so one year after manufactures warranty ran out. Like many I faced the dilemma about taking out a warranty at around £1800. It was an easy one for me as i was happy to take the risk, just like when buying anything in a certain high street computer retailer smile

So, scores on the doors at the end of the first year, warranty free:
1 month in it needed a new TPMS sensor and an external temperature sensor. Total cost for parts and fitting was £299.
10 month in needed a new rear Parking Sensor - cost was £43 for the part and I fit it myself.

So £342 versus £1800 for the warranty. Worked for me, onto year 2 with £1448 "banked" towards any problems smile

Me too. I'm a little beyond the 4 year mark also. In the year+ without a warranty, the total cost for repairs has been exactly $0.00.

Me the same....... Its definitely a waste of money..... I put £100-00 a week away for the car just in case..... Pleanty of funds at the end of the year for all things for the car....

Yep.... Same here... 2 years without warranty...

Total cost of repairs, new belt and pulley... £56.66... Fitted by myself, but even if I'd taken it in, Bridge Mill only quoted around £50 to fit....... I just fancied doing it myselfsmile

Steve.... You may have done better than you think.... It wouldn't surprise me if tyre pressure, and, reverse sensors weren't covered anyway....

My 2006 car has been out of warranty for 4 years now and im always keeping my fingers crossed...but in 65K miles its only had a few bits of non routine maintenance. Wheel bearings x2, coolant sensor x 2, aux pulley kit ...no more than £600 compared with £6K of warranties I havnt bought

you have to be real unlucky to need £1800 of work per year..but insurance companies prey on your fear and for every 9 of us that dont use, someone else might need it ...its just luck really

My Vantage 4.7 coupe will be 3 years old in January, so I was fascinated to read all your comments. Year 4 warranty on my previous 4.3 cost me £900, discounted from £999 by AM (including VAT). That was 3 years ago, when apparently they were trying to stimulate used sales at AM dealers.

Now I am quoted £1399 or two years for £2699, both ex VAT. My car does 4000 miles pa and is garaged in the winter. So I'm thinking I might put aside £3240 and hope for the best over the next two years, when I plan to change the car anyway.

I thought maybe the thought of scary bills might lead to insomnia, but I am reassured by what I read on this forum. I have until Jan 11th to decide!

I thought that I would reply to this. I have had my V8V (MY 07 plate) ten and a half months and it is obviously in its dealers first year of warranty you get with the car. However, I have purchased the premium warranty for my second year. Why you are asking, well because of the following:

Front OS wheel arch seal (Replaced) (2013)
Drivers heated seat both elements (Replaced) (2013)
Passenger door handle light harness (Replaced) (2013)
Thermostat (Replaced) (2013)
Windscreen heating element failure (Full Windscreen Replaced) (2013)
2x O2 sensors (Repalced) (2013)
Front OS Headlight Washer (Replaced) (2013)
Drivers door window system (Replaced) (2013)
Drivers door power mirror arm (Replaced) (2013)

These are all warranty items. They may not add up to what a warranty costs, in fact I have no idea what this lot would cost, including labour and vat??

They always say, the warranty all depends on how risk averse you are, well I don't want to cross my fingers I am afraid. Some may say that in the first year, I may have had all the things that were going to go wrong, have gone wrong, so I will have trouble free second year. Well I think I will pay my money and feel a little safer. Yes I know I could put the warranty money away and use it when and if something goes wrong, but it is completely up to the individual what they do and I thought that I would feel happier knowing that most big things and some minor things are covered, should it go wrong.

Well that's my opinion, which I am sure some will disagree with.

Sounds like you found one of the odd ones Bomber ...which is what the warranty is for

One story like yours is usually enough to fuel another few dozen risk averse people into going for the warranty ...which of course is how the whole thing works

for every 50 or 100 people that dont have so many issues, there's someone else that does....the better the ratio, the more money the warranty insurance company makes

the only people that really know which cars are winners or losers are the warranty companies, who have their own stats built up over many years ....and if they start to lose money on a particular car, they just bump up the price of the warranty to average it out....
