How much for a private early AMV8 Roadster ?
Discussion
On the outlook for new hoon car and replacement daily driver.
Have put a few feelers out for the former, but am wondering for the DD what budget I should allow for an early Vantage Roadster , manual, with between 20-30k miles, bought privately ?
I assume at mileage mentioned I would have to budget for new clutch at £3k, if not already replaced ?
Thanks in advance.
Dave

Did notice the number of Autos, but after being used to DSG box on wife's VW Golf GTI , I'm not sure I would find the AM auto up to scratch (no offence meant to those with it)
That price would be in my price range and I've cash waiting for right car. Anyone looking to sell, let me know ASAP, as I'm known to buy cars on a whim
As it happens mine is a Sportshift (no offence taken) and it should not be considered as an Auto in the true sense or compared with an Auto boxDid notice the number of Autos, but after being used to DSG box on wife's VW Golf GTI , I'm not sure I would find the AM auto up to scratch (no offence meant to those with it)

It is an automated 6 speed manual gearbox and is engineered & designed to be driven using the paddles all the time IMHO.
I recently was speaking to the Parts manager at an AM dealer when I was ordering service items for my car and I mentioned the costs of a clutch replacement, parts circa £1,500 & £3K fitted at an AM dealer.

As for the clutch, budget on a Bamford Rose clutch. It'll pay dividends in the end. Its a dead cert for me on my SS.
Mine is an 08 plate manual roadster with full AM service history and has the AM extended warranty until June 2014.
My car has 60,000 miles on it.
I wouldn't be concerned by the cars mileage , buy on condition.
Oh and if I have to have the clutch replaced under my ownership I would like to get the Bamfrd Rose twin plate clutch fitted - its cheaper than the AM clutch and a better clutch - only from what I have read on here.
My guess is you'll be paying £40k and some from a dealer , mid £30k plus private.

Heard good things of BR and not far away, so would end up my place for all work.
I'm not out to denounce Sport Shift, but personally I would only want a manual Vantage, I like being the Robot
Drive both before you decide. I've had both, each has their charm. I wish I'd driven both when I bought my first V8V.I'm not out to denounce Sport Shift, but personally I would only want a manual Vantage, I like being the Robot

In addition. Have experienced Token Jocks AM, with a few BR upgrades, plus another friends Noble 3R, so yes, very different cars.
Hoon cars looking at :-
- Noble
- lotus 2-11
- possibly caterham r400 / r500
Daily drivers
- Aston V8VR
- Evora S (waiting couple of days on this AM, before raising Evora thread)
Basically have list of cars I want to own before too old, too poor, just pegged it, so change cars annually...

I had DSG and Sportshift I actually prefer the AM box for entertainment and DSG for convenience. Did notice the number of Autos, but after being used to DSG box on wife's VW Golf GTI , I'm not sure I would find the AM auto up to scratch (no offence meant to those with it)

Sportshift is very common on early roadsters as they were released at the same time
I never use the Aston on D but rarely take the DSG out of it

In view of the above, you have to experience Aston Martin ownership.Be prepared for the affection shown by other road users, and strangers at filling stations who just want to talk to you.
There is genuine respect for the Company and their cars, by so many people.
A 4·7 Vantage is my first AM. I always drive the long way home.
Enjoy your search. Don't worry too much about clutches. It is pot luck, depending on how the previous owner drove. Some PHers here report the original clutch at 65,000 miles, and still working well.
