Hi all,

I have been looking at purchasing an SP10 coupe.

From my understanding they dont come with sports exhaust - has anyone with an SP10 A) got pics of their car and the spec they choose and B) did you stay with standard exhaust/sports exhaust/ 3rd party exhaust???

thanks in advance

AFAIK the SP10 is a manual S with a few cosmetic tweaks
Having said that I know RobGT's car came with an SP10 badge and comfort suspension
I think I'd ask to see the build sheet for it as you can't make any assumptions wink

Hi Kevin,

The SP10 is basically a Vantage S so the exhaust will be a bit more fruity in sound than the standard Vantage. Regarding aftermarket silencers, you can achieve more noise but no increase in power and torque plus the noise is with you all the time. For a bit of outlay Bamford Rose can offer you a range of alternatives which can give a measurable increase in power and torque with the added bonus of a stealth mode as well as a magnificent V8 sound

By the way get the car bought and come and join us on our many trips planned for 2014 with a great bunch of Astonauts. smile

Mikey is correct. Ask to see the build spec. It is fairly unlikely that it will have comfort suspension , if it does walk away! I have had mine all changed

Not wishing to be rude I can't much see the point of an SP10. I would recommend a Vantage S.

SP10 is basically an S with an optional maual box - but you can spec that anyway on an S now. Info here:

I looked at an SP10 but ordered a regular S instead. Ceramic grey wasn't for me. Nor the Alcantara. Plus I wanted the SSII gearbox - am I the only one? smile

Incidentally, I test drove a two year old, 10k miles N420 with an Alcantara steering wheel. The wheel felt, and looked very old. I know you can get them re-covered, but it wasn't for me.

Depends on the deal available of course! Have fun deciding.

My last S had an Alcantara steering wheel , after 18 months it looked tired and worn. Pearl has a proper leather one which looks as good as new.

I still do not understand the SP10. It is hyped as some sort of race car replica which it clearly isn't. Why would anyone want comfort suspension and a whisper quiet exhaust is a mystery to me. I must assume it is put together as a package and priced as such. In years to come when it is time to change what little that has been saved will be lost in over and above depreciation.

To conclude in my opinion buy the Vantage S thereby not supporting a marketing whim.

I have an SP10 roadster with the manual box. The roadsters come with sports suspension as standard and without all the ancantara. The sound is different to the standard vantage and the exhaust valves open at lower rpm.

For me it was a great deal as it had all the extras I would have specc'd but at a much better price than an S + extras. No brainer really. How Rob got one with the blancmange suspension is a mistery.

I can take whatever photos you like with pleasure. Let me know.

Martyn, unbeknown to me the car was ordered in with the 'comfort suspension' for dealer stock and I honestly had no idea when I purchased it.

We did a couple of hundred miles to sort of run it in then embarked on a trip to Shelsey Walsh with our good friends Andy and Jo in their 911 GT3 RS. Oh Dear! Exiting some fast bends and the back end was pogoing really badly.

Not for long though! BR were about to fit their switchable suspension which was then upgraded to active suspension. Sorted, & then perfected!

I can't believe Aston would release a pointless "special" biggrin

Yes it is ironic that A.M. produced the SP10 as a tribute to the SP10 class of the VLN endurance race series, but the coupe does not have Sports Suspension as standard, when the normal V8S does.. although it is still an option ( the SP10 Roadster does have S.S though!).
You get the Premium audio instead for your cash. But Ceramic Grey is an expensive option on the standard V8S and if you like the colour (I do biggrin) and the alcantara interior on the coupe, plus gloss black/ diamond turned wheels and black calipers then it's a good purchase (at the right price) as the plaque does add a little extra feel good factor, even if it is only a cosmetically enhanced S with a manual box. smile

I bought an SP10 coupe earlier this year - see previous posting with pics.As Rob said I set out to buy a S but got seduced with the SP which had just arrived for prep pre showroom.Spec for spec it was £10k cheaper than the S assuming as Grant said you like the colour which I obviously did too. Coming from a line of freshly specced 911's I admit to being a complete Aston virgin so in a bizarre way the already specced SP made a fair amount of sense given it wont be my last.Do I regret not having Vantage S scripted seats - yes for 5 minutes and tbh would probably want them next time although the Alcantera seats both look great and are superb to use.Equally the sw which I really like although my previous 911 had both the same material setas and wheel so perhaps I was just familiar with them.To be fair my sw on my GT3 is alcantera too and after 4 years is still perfect.Suspension is an personal debate - my SP has the non sports which for our pot holed rubbish roads is fine for evryday driving but I guess drive 2 versions of the Vantage and see what u think.Exhaust noise is fantastic and I had a switch fitted to keep the noise on all the time - I have heard Robs and whilst fantastic may not be for everyone.I think thats the point - spec how u want and not what others want - I have yet to spec a car perfectly !
