Another paint problem
Discussion
Putting my 06 DB8 Volante in for some paintwork repair on the bonnet I noticed some blistering - small bubbles on one wing - so got these dealt with at the same time thinking this was the usual aluminium paint problem. However according to my man the wings are fibreglass and shaped with filler and what I was seeing was trapped air leaking from the filler under the paint .Have not heard of this one before - just thought you would all be interested to know that the blistering around the door handles etc is not the only thing you can look forward to !!!

Dear Hartley, sorry to hear about your problem ,however you seem to have had a result as you have a truly unique Aston DB8, must be worth a few bob.avinalarf said:

Actually it's in the contract when you buy an Aston that you can add or subtract one depending on how happy you are with it. He's downgraded his to a DB8, I drive a V9 Advantage.I have exactly the same problem on my 2006 DB9. The left side wing has very noticeable bubbling and the right side is starting to do the same but can only been noticed in the right light. The bubbles are in the tight concave bend at the top, close to where the wing meets the bonnet.
I spoke to my dealer about it and they'd only seen it once before, many years ago. In that case both wings were replaced as it was determined sanding and filling would only be a temporary solution -- the feeling was that the original parts had absorbed some kind of chemical during production and was now releasing it.
Parts cost from the dealer here: $3,000.00 each! I got two brand new wings from astonmartinbits shipped half-way around the world for about $2,000 for the pair, which included the massive shipping cost. I'll probably get these painted and fitted in the spring.

Had exactly the same on my '08 vantage. Blisters appeared in April 2013.
AM as expected denied any liability. Paintwork warranty excluded this as not perforated. Email to Bez got things moving so they replaced the wing. I still had to pay for paint, but as an expedient I agreed as I just wanted rid of the thing & get a proper car again but couldn't as it stood.
It is clearly not an unknown problem as they agreed to replace based on my photographs alone - wasn't even seen by the dealer.
As AM is bereft of any sense of moral liability (indeed any morals whatsoever), the only way to get them to move is go in hard from the outset. Good luck

What do you mean by "go in hard ".AM as expected denied any liability. Paintwork warranty excluded this as not perforated. Email to Bez got things moving so they replaced the wing. Did you threaten Dr Bez with a kick in the nuts ?
Or threaten to smash the windows at dealer ?
Please tell.
All quite straightforward.
I wrote and explained about the fault on my car (which had been waiting to appear since it rolled out the factory gates - inherent poor preparation / materials)
I cited this very forum and (not that it was required) illustrated the plethora of owners suffering from a variety of similar problems, all due to poor preparation / materials.
I explained that the paintwork warranty provided was next to useless.
I then explained that although individual owners were embarrassed about their beautiful and expensive AMs suffering such fundamental faults, the majority seemed to be prepared to write it off as part of the AM experience.
I explained that I was not one such and then suggested that it would take very little to catalyse a group "approach" which would be a little bit more difficult to arrogantly wave away than individual owners. I may even have indicated that the media might take notice.
I then suggested that I have better things to do with my time and if he/they would care to reconsider, then I would indeed spend that time on better things. I left the choice to them.
That resulted in a conference call with some nice chaps from AM who proposed a solution which, as I said, although still distasteful, would allow us all to move forward.
Unemotional, factual but no idle threat.
Simples

Thank you David for your fulsome reply.
This topic has been raised many times on this forum, mostly I believe for the blistering around the door handle area.
My query for some" flesh on the bone" was to help other others who could use your approach when required.
p.s. Your profile shows you have rid of your Aston, was it because of this experience?

It was the final straw I'm afraid. I loved the way the car looked & handled. I hated the SS box. I had JCT's number on speed dial. Not bought from JCT who were brilliant btw.p.s. Your profile shows you have rid of your Aston, was it because of this experience?
Clutch (brand new) exploded after I'd had it 900 miles.
Door latches failed both sides (so wasn't locking)
Parking assist module had to be replaced
Door mirror mounts replaced (corroded)
Hours spent (by JCT) to located water ingress - turned out to be a strip where the roof sealed (or was meant to) had no sealant.
O2 sensors replaced
Squeaky handbrake shoes when you drove round a corner
Squeaky brakes
Interior leather on dash was starting to distort (the glue stopped working)
There was a good bit more, but my subconscious is blocking it!
