Hi all.
I've been reading the forum for years and have found it very usefull, thank you.
I now have an issue I could use some advice with. Some goon decided it would be nice to kick the door of my V8V and leave me with a duffed in door skin. I don't know much about these doors apart from they aren't steel skinned. As you can see the dent is right on the door crease line, probably the worst place. Does anyone know if this is likely to be repairable or is a new door a more cost effective solution?

Many thanks in advance
Anthony

What a bummer. If you find it is cheaper to replace the door there is a new one for sale here: http://www.astonmartinbits.com/models/5-V8-Vantage...
I would bet a new skin could be put on it and would likely be a better solution than a new door (all manner of electronics etc in the doors). But not sure that skin could be repaired. I think the skins are plastic, and if it's been damaged to the point it didn't pop out I would expect some creases to be permanently in it.
Best bet would be to talk to a dealer.
Hopefully something unpleasant will befall the cock end that did it.

Replacing the door is overkill, I don't even think a skin is needed. The dent will push out from the inside and it can be filled and painted easily, this is easy stuff for a bodyshop, when done it will not be visible to you or anyone else, I wouldn't worry :-)
I would even say that's a worst case scenario. Get quotes from a couple of paintless dent repair (PDR) companies. As long as the paint isn't cracked they may be able to get the dent out. The skin is aluminium which makes it more of a challenge but not necessarily impossible.mjk1 said:

Thanks to everyone for all your helpful advice. I'll get in touch with a paint less repairer to see if it's fixable. A quick google throws up lots to choose from in Norfolk. The car is going for a service in January so I'll get the dealer to have a good look at it too.
Having had a prod of the door I can't believe it's aluminium. Sounds and flexes like a sheet of plastic!
It does seem a bit much to replace the whole door. I can't imagine how much work would go into just changing everything over from the old door.

PDR won't work on aluminium on a swage line like that
I hope the idiot that did it gets some karma
I had a similar dent on a 928 years ago, ali doors on that and the PDR chap got it out okay. If it was mine I would get a PDR chap to straighten it out, then get it filled and painted if not happy.
All fillers shrink eventually, body shops tend to be lazy and use more than is required as it's faster and cheaper so this way you guarantee a fine skim at worst.

Yeah, over the summer I had to park the car on the road on and off when I couldn't keep it in the garage.
It's a small world. I used to live around the corner and my friends would often confuse your car for mine. They aren't the type to be kicking in doors, however, I'm afraid. Anyway, get it down to Long Stratton. They have got an incredible bodyshop there (which have rebuilt plenty of DBs of every flavour and even put a one-77 back together after it was trashed in China). They will be able to sort you out.

It is indeed! I love the exhaust note as it echos between the old flint walls as you drive towards the law courts. It was most likely a drunken idiot on the way home.Anyway, get it down to Long Stratton. Stratton fixed a huge scratch on my DB7 years ago when another fool ran a key down the whole side (I have no luck with cars). The repair was amazing. I had a look around their restoration workshop on one of their open days years ago and was suitable impressed.
