I took delivery of a new V8V S on Friday and all is well except I've had two observations I'd appreciate comment on. (Ps.. I have posted pictures on another thread and if I ever get it clean again I'll post up better ones for those that demand these things smile

The first is I had a clutch overheat message come up. Its a SS car and it was in a supermarket with a lot of shuffling going on and soon cleared once I got moving. I presume this is normal? Its a tricky car to edge along. I also put in in neutral when stationary for more than a a few seconds, e.g. caught at traffic lights. Is this sensible to preserve the life of the clutch?

The more worrying thing is a sloshing noise that seems to come from the passenger side. It could just be fuel in the tank, its not very loud. but its definitely there. It almost sounds like a tube half full of water that sloshes back and forward. I've never heard fuel "slosh" in a tank before! If its normal, I can certainly live with it and I'm sure someone on here will have a view. I could ask the dealer but my experience of dealers is the stock answer is always "Its normal"

TIA

I am not sure about the later V8V S SS gearbox but on mine (2008 V8VR SS) when the car is stationary with the footbrake pressed or if the handbrake is applied then the clutch is disengaged (it states that in the owners handbook).

I have never had the clutch overheat message, even after being stuck on crawling traffic and the car should be easier to manoeuvre than you mention.
On my car I always wait for it to do a system check before I drive off and because I have the earliest SS gearbox I also let it do a clutch learn (not required on later SS cars)

This should not be required on a later V8V S SS, but I think waiting for the system check message does apply to later cars as well (to do a clutch learn automatically)

The sloshing sound could be water inside the sills, this apparently happens on some cars, there are plastic drain plugs at the rear of the sills just before the rear wheel arch on mine.
I have a sloshing sound on mine, but I think it is a leaking windscreen (I only get it when turning left or right NOT acceleration or braking)

I must get my eye sight checked.

I probably misread but I thought for a moment, that you bought a new Aston Martin, and within a day or so, drove it into a supermarket car park. smile

My DB9 does not slosh, but my MINI Cooper S does. Mostly heard when starting the engine. i always thought it was the air conditioning fluid being pumped.

Hi

I also have an S , and have only ever had the 'clutch overheating' message come up once in 10,000 miles when i was in the infamous queue to get into the Festival of Speed. Luckily it came on just as i was parking up, and when i returned later in the day to leave, message was gone and i have never seen it since, so hopefully that will put your mind to rest.

As for the sloshing, i am sure i have seen a post on this forum before but cannot remember when so no doubt somebody with a better memory will be along soon !

Sorry to drag the brand down and to run the risk of trolley rage but needs must.. It wasn't even a waitrose car park.

Having found I can put the car in neutral by pulling both paddles it seems easy to do that regardless of whether needed.

I'll look for the drain plugs and do a google search. Sounds like it's not that common an observation

I wasn't thinking of that.
It was concern about your beautiful new car in a supermarket car park, where shoppers are not always careful, how they open their car doors.

Enjoy your Aston Martin. For the first time, mine is off the road for the winter. Am looking forward to the spring, for my next drive.

on other non AM cars where I have had that happen it is the climate control fluid dissipating in some way and the lack of it left in the system causes it to move around.

The sloshing noise could well be water in the sills. The drain holes get blocked easily. Your dealer should be able to fix it quickly. Sills are aluminum, so won't rot, but you still want to get it fixed.

I appreciate your concern and I was joking about the calibre of super market. I was slightly concern, not quite paranoid, about supermarket dings.

As for blocked drainage holes or low air con fluid, the car has only been on the road since Friday, so at 4 days old it sounds like a minor fault that needs sorting

When I took delivery of my DB9 from the dealer, as I drove away on the first couple of corners I heard sloshing of water somewhere. So returned to the garage and checked the door drains first and then found the front wing the passenger side by the strake/apperture full of water. I mean at least a gallon which should have been filled with foam rather than water however this was soon resolved no furher problems were encountered.Yet another issue that should have been found before delivery......

It will be the doors or sills full of water. Very common - drain holes blocked.

Good call Jon39.
I have no experience of supermarkets as my butler normally collects provisions.
Re. The sloshing I experienced this once and found it to be caused by a half full bottle of vintage single malt on the back seat.
Hope this helps. smile

It worries me that they're blocked on a new car!

I know we all love our cars & that they are magnificent to look at and drive whatever..... But always the same old thing.... Problems, problems, problems.... Most minor I agree, but come on... These are not cheap cars and are supposed to be of highest quality... LOL

Mine suffers little annoying things all the time, seat fuse blowing... Something loose inside the drivers door.... Folding mirrors losing memory and always require re setting... Rust on a 2007 car around the door handles etc... Leather peeling up on the passengers side of the dash... Its a Fu@king joke..... None of this should be happening on these cars....

When my car was still under warranty, AM told me that the dash was not covered under the warranty as was wear and tear?? How does that part of the dash get any wear and tear??? Hilarious... LOL and that the rust around the door handles also wasn't covered... LOL

My Nissan Navara gets really abused... Missed services, flat out up and down the motorways, really has a tough life... And guess what... Never has any issues at all... LOL

I think the sales brochure definition of this is that they have "character"

Test drives, leaves get stuck inside drain holes - easy. Wouldn't worry me at all.

Also with a new V8V S and gave the exact same sloshing issue. Did you solve it?
