Great video eric, thanks. That jag is well quick and seems to have the Aston covered. When are Astons going to win tests?. Still love the V12 even though all the competition seems to be better. Shame.

Who buys an Aston because of the performance?

No doubt AML have lost sales because of the lack of perceived performance but realistically how fast can you go now? The V8 engine is more suited to UK roads, the full use of the rev range provides a better driver experience IMHO. The V12 provides the same experience except you may look at a prison sentence rather than points if your observational skills need improvement.

Personally I'm waiting to see the outcome for the AMG link, hopefully a better package technically.

The sports bike market is in decline, will sports car follow? Best get your fix now if petrol is your thing before we are driving around in electric milk floats…

The V12S fares much better in this one, Steve Sutcliffe seems to be a great fan. It appears that the Jag is a bit chubby.....

Bloody hell are they talking about the same cars? Complete opposite.
Ten minutes after my post a Aston wins a test! Pleased again.

I think it just goes back to the fact that the regular v12v with manual box is the right car.

Don't get the negativity towards the gear box, I've driven a V12 S a couple of times now and although it's no PDK it's no where near as bad as the US based reviews make out. Comes as no surprise that they prefer a car with a conventional auto box in it...

That Jaguar looks hideous. Just how many spillers (and letters) can you get on that rear. The combination of the technology of the Jaguar and the design and attention to detail of the Aston would be the ideal Gaydon product. Each on their own they can't really touch Porsche/Ferrari these days.

So right. If all you want is a track star then you would have a different set of criteria. When you want a nice car too, it matters.
I shopped around before I bought my new V8ss and went to see the Jags. The sales guy got me sat in an XK-RS, engine running and ready to go out for a drive. I sat there for a minute and turned off the engine and gave him his keys back. It just felt like its for an Evo driver with deeper pockets.
I'd rather have the most beautiful car in the world that is not as quick as the fastest. I just don't suit baseball caps....

So right dive. It seems that most Aston owners have an appreciation for things of beauty , and therefore gravitate towards Maserati, Ferrari, etc. cars which have a pleasing aesthetic. The Jag is just a pig ugly brute. hurl

@KarlFranz, the Jag has an auto box, not a manual.

I put this up the other day - http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

The head to head was interesting as I never felt the V12S was a handful - maybe `i was not trying hard enough!

As the XKR-S GT was a limited run and one off to see how far the XKR could be pushed, and the fact that I have not driven one, the nearest I can compare is the "normal" XKR-S, which is a very impressive machine.

Whilst looks are subjective, I really like the aggressiveness of the XKR-S, and as the GT is really a track car, I don't find issue with the extra aero. The V12S (and Vantage in general), is a stunning car and it is easy to see where the extra cost is spent - the detailing is much better.

I am looking forward to driving the F Type V8R Coupe, I think this will give the V12S etc. a closer run for it's money, and, to my eyes at least, it also looks stunning in a more forward looking way.

I am hoping to conclude plans to swap either our SLS or R8 V10 for a V12S (and there ware some tempting deals out there at the moment!), early in the new year. The F Type Coupe should be with us in May and then the comparisons can begin!
