I am thinking of dipping my toe into the world of Aston ownership and buying a DB7. Can anyone offer any advice or tips on what to look for or be careful of? I have been told to stay well clear of anything with a sub £20k tag, any thoughts on this as I have seen a couple that don't look too bad.
Cheers

Hello Fred,

The best place to visit on this particular topic is the AMOC (Aston Martin Owners Club) Forum and look under the Bloxham section. You will find all that there is to know about these cars.

What he said ^^^^^^^ plus try and talk to your local AMOC. There will probably be a few owners that will be able to guide you. I see you are in Cornwall, but Chiltern Aston in Hemel always have a good selection. A proper journey for you, but you won't be disappointed by the quality of their cars. Because of this, they do tend to be at the top end of DB7 prices right now but their knowledge and ability to work on these cars is about the best in the business IMO.

There's loads to look out for on DB7's and you will need to budget for ongoing maintenance but simply put, consider as late a model as you can afford with the fewest miles. But whatever, get a specialist to check it over before you buy. I had mine inspected by an AM main dealer (140 point check) but even they missed loads of bits, albeit minor. Have a chat with Chiltern and let us know how you get on.

Also, imo, a volante looks the best. Greg's green volante looks timeless and is just gorgeous.

As little donkey has alredy said, Chiltern Aston Centre are well worth a chat or a visit. Bought my car from them and was very happy with the whole experience.

Many thanks for the advice. I have always been a bit wary of owners clubs, I've just sold my 993 Porsche and Porsche club left me stone cold....really just a big willy waving competition. I will look at the local AMOC....you never know. Any opinions, aside from the obvious running costs, about the V12 over the straight six? Build quality? overall improvements?

Thanks again.

...........definition of an optimist.....very funny!!

Just spent the last two weekends on the M5(...everywhere is so far away from Cornwall!!)viewing a couple of cars. Both just sub£20K, both reasonably low mileage 40-50K, both advertised as good condition etc.....what a load of tosh!!! Both rotten as a peach round the rear arches ( Is this a known common problem?)both showing lots of car park battle scars and both fairly grubby inside. I was particularly disappointed on how poor the inside appear to be holding up....seat squabs and bolsters looked very tired. Looks like I'll have to stop kidding myself and actually have go the main dealer route for peace of mind etc.

Fred......your perfect car is out there, you just have to find it......part of the fun in ownership is the search......you may have to pat a little more than 20k .......perhaps ask on AMOC....and have you looked in classic cars.....they often have adds for enthusiasts cars
