I presume the Roadster roll over hoops deploy at the same time that the airbags are triggered, because the car in this photograph did not roll. It has damage to the offside front.

A Roadster owner obviously never wants to see their own roll over hoops, but here is your opportunity to see what they look like.

Mike at BR told me that they were triggered when wheel speed was radically different i.e. wheels in the air and on the ground. I assumed that the bags would inflate when rapid deceleration occurred.

I'm pretty sure that deployment is not linked to the airbags. If it were, then airbag activation for any reason would cause unnecessary damage to the rear area as in this photo. You don't actually have to roll to deploy the hoops, just threaten to roll, as must have been the case in this accident.

The manual cautions that driving the car on a track with the hood closed is not advisable since the hoops may deploy, thinking you are about to roll when in fact you're just having a bit of fun.

A motor racing driving technique to use when control has been lost, is to brake heavily to lock all wheels. I know ABS would complicate this, but if all wheels have stopped rotating, then presumably the roll over hoops would not deploy.

Recite carefully, "Lock brakes as the car begins to spin, but release brakes as the car begins to roll". The first part should be an automatic reaction with a good driver, but the second part would need extremely accurate timing.

Not nice to see frown
AFAIK It is a similar mechanism to the lock in seat belts and is not linked to ABS or the airbags
Mines "got air" a fair few times with no issues
Parts book shows it as a sealed unit

I seem to remember the roll bars popping up at Millbrook on a test by one of the tv motoring shows, may have been Tiff?

Saw one do this on a track day after they'd taken too much kerb and lifted the inside wheels!

Hi Ed,
Hope you're well! Still not back in an AM yet.....Sadly after having a few the dealerships put me off for a while

Haven't been on here for ages but thought I'd make more of an effort for 2014 smile

Saw Tony in Beaulieu in the summer but not seen anyone else lately
