Apologies if this has been discussed before, I've tried search but the PH search button just sends me to Google and despite going through over 100 pages of AM topics on here I can't find a connected thread.

I have about half an inch of null, or 'dead zone' in my DB9's steering. Most off-putting!

Track rod ends seem fine, I was rather hoping in vain for a loose spline clamp on the column, or even bad UJ, but I've found the play exists at the input shaft to the rack.

So, is this a common/known problem, and - if so - is it adjustable by removing rack and fiddling, or do I need another rack? (on some racks the pinion interface can be adjusted/shimmed, not sure about these beasties though).

This dosen't sound right to me, a modern rack and pinion steering system should not have any discernable free play. Old type steering box systems did have a small amount of play.

I don't have a steering 'dead zone' on my DB9: it's all very direct and precise ... investigate!
