Hi,

I'm looking at buying a 60,000 mile DB9 which has effectively missed a service (60k carried out in March 2012)... The owner is happy to carry out the 70k service as part of the deal but I'm just wondering how much affect this gap in the log book will have on ability and value of resale? Any opinions would be appreciated...

Cheers
Kiel

Difficult to say but it' seems to be making YOU think twice - maybe that's your answer!

In reality, however, given that it's already got 60k on it and hopefully you intend to be a 'proper' owner and actually drive it (rather than it be a garage queen) then I would say it would make no significant difference at all by the time you come to sell it.

Buy it !

If it's a good allround example and if the current owner agrees to fix any problems with the 70k service, then I think you'll be fine.

Is it missing the service or just the stamp? Unless you leave the user manual in an obvious place, dealers don't tend to stamp it. But there should be a record in the dealer network to show whether the car has had its scheduled service or not.

Thanks for your responses.

To clarify, it didn't have the service at all, so not just the stamp missing, just a near 2 yr gap between services.

Thanks

Mine has missed a service and had the last one done at an indie so I suspect it's pretty much worthless. That said if the car you describe is the one you want get it bought yes

Let's face it, it is worthless because I drove it yes

To the OP, it is a 60,000 mile car, I would not be as concerned as I would with a 10,000 mile car. It seems that it has a fairly full history. How many miles has it covered since the last service? Mine was getting serviced on time, but every 5,000 miles in real terms which is crazy. It should be mileage based IMHO.

I do 3-4k miles per year and this time, due its 8 year service in January, I decided to extend interval to 18 months. It will still be done by AM dealers as no indie anywhere near. For me, it seems a reasonable interval for the mileage I do and it will still be regularly serviced.
Perhaps some will be put off, but I am likely to keep it for a few years yet.
