Aston Martin Nordschleife lap times
Discussion
Just a thought.
In the hope that someone from Aston Martin Marketing or Brand Communications may be whiling away a couple of minutes reading the forum, please may i make a suggestion?
As far as i can ascertain, the quickest official lap by an Aston Martin is
by a DBS at 8'02", which is position 102 in the rankings. A Corvette
Z06 which has virtually the same power/weight ratio, and similar
handling characteristics as a V12S, does 7'22" [2011] ranked position
14 with Mr Jim Mero [see onboard footage on Youtube] at the wheel.
I would hazard a guess that a V12S driven properly could
manage sub 7'20", which would put Aston Martin in the top 10....
I have driven both a V12 Vantage manual, and a Corvette Z06 around
the ring, and there's nothing in it.
The cost to do this from NTC would be minimal, apart from driver, official timekeeper, and
a couple of hours circuit hire. The car would have to have the lightweight seats, NO B&O audio, and a 4 or 5 point harness, and maybe nitrogen filled tyres for predictability? As Aston Martin use the Nordschleife for vehicle development, the logistics would be relatively easy. It would be a great statement to make from a marketing perspective.
As for a driver, i'm sure Sir Goble or Herr Schubauer would be tempted, or draft in Pedro Lamy or Stephane Sarrazin??
Obviously, i'd like to go along and help out with tyre pressures, cups of tea, etc...................
PS
Porsche GT3RS 7'27" 2011
Porscha GT2RS 7'18" 2010
Aventador 7'25" 2011
SLS 7'26" 2013
458 7'28" 2009
MP4 7'28" 2010

Im surprised you didn't feel the 230kg difference between the zo6 and v12s, that impressive body control by aston!
I think on a balls out lap though it wont be able to match the lighter cars, I'd be happy to be proved wrong.
Is there a reason aston hasn't officially realised a laptime?

I really don't know why Aston Martin haven't posted a time recently? Although the Z06 is lighter, it has transversely mounted Carbon fibre leaf springs, and over the high speed bumpy sections, you really need to be on the correct trajectory. The V12 seems more composed, so you can press on with more confidence. Around Spa however, velvety smooth tarmac plays to the Z06's lighter weight, despite the leaf springs.

Dr Bez has stated many times that he does not focus on numbers for production cars!
We've all seen what AM can do with racing cars and taking into account the financial difficulties, well done to them.
A V12S will definitely have an impressive time around the track, however even if its time is that good, i don't think Aston will publish it purely because their product is not a stripped out supercar that has impressive times, but a luxury supercar that offers a combination of quality, luxury, performance etc.
If that time was to published then you attract a different clientele with different expectations and i'm not sure Aston wants to get into that market.
In my opinion AM covers a segment that it's quite unique..

The reason i started this topic, is that if a car with 352 BHP/Tonne [Z06], with the same weight distribution as a V12S with 340 BHP/Tonne can lap in 7'22", i'm pretty sure the V12S could put up a very respectable time. You can offset the Z06's better torque against the better stability in the Aston Martin.
So, if its not been attempted already, i think it would be a very worthwhile exercise.....

One of Astons test drivers told me that the V8S is quicker around the Nordschleife than the V12. There is an interesting clip on U .Tube entitled GT4 versus V12V, worth a look.

Do you foresee the two cars competing for the same type of buyer? So, if its not been attempted already, i think it would be a very worthwhile exercise.....

It can't be. The V12 would be much faster on the Doettinger Hoehe.
That doesn't mean it'd be faster on the lap.... A KTM x bow can just about do 150 flat out.. A Lambo aventador can do 217...They both laped the Nurburgring in the same time... 7mins 25..

^^^^^^ if hey have no interest, why did they publish a time for the DBS as mentioned above
Because 'they'(AML) didn't record that time..some private party did so.
I've always thought it strange that 3rd parties haven't bothered to time the V12V there.
