I keep reading that a Tracker is standard on UK models. Dim question probably but how would I know if I had one (2010 Vantage Roadster - not purchased from a main dealer).

Standard and should have come with tracker tags - see separate topic. Funnily enough my insurance INCREASED if I had the tracker activated!!! Madness in my opinion and I asked the company to think about what they were actually saying! Something to do with the suggestion that it was suggesting that it was "likely to get stolen" Balderdash...

I had my tracker reactivated this year, as the insurance quote I got plus the tracker fee worked out quite a lot less than before. Not expecting any kind of consistency on this next year though. The insurance companies are a law unto themselves.

I believe, the actual device is fitted into the car during build, but you have to pay an annual subscription to have it activated and working.

I opted for mine to be activated without any tags, the reasoning being that they would need the keys to start the car. As far as I know, if the car is tampered with when locked the alarm (I went for the upgraded version) and tracker will be activated. I think the fobs are just an unnecessary complication and an added expense to replace / maintain ongoing.

Absolutely and I should have added that instead of tags/fob you can use your phone instead if it's compatible e.g. iPhone etc.

It's supposed to be Cobra on 14MY cars, but mine is still Eurowatch on a 14MY Vanquish, built at the end of last October.

On my previous year's quote, adding the tracker reduced the premium by £1. (That was the actual figure, I'm not making it up for effect). It wasn't a hard decision.

My vantage is cobra - built late September I think. You don't need the tags to start and drive the car (not on the cobra one anyway) - I think the idea is if someone steals the keys (either car jacking or via a break in) the tracker will still go off.

The cobra doesn't support the phone pairing.

Tags just seem a faf to me

If you have a tracker, a little red light will appear in the fuel gauge for a second or two after start-up. It will go away if you have your paired phone/tags with you.

Hi

that's a bit strange. Just been talking to a dealer about a new car and he says aston have switched from eurowatch to cobra but it is still a system with tags. he even told me they were a bit smaller than the eurowatch ones. My understanding is that its not a cat 5 system without tags or phone pairing.

It has tags, they are small, and the car notifies the call centre if they're not present. As Zod say, there's a light that goes out if all is well. I didnt mean to imply you dont have tags, but as I've driven off without them only yo get the call 3 mins later asking if the car had been stolen they can be a pain.

Brilliant. Thanks for the clarity.
