A local Driving Experience company to me has recently added a V12V to their fleet and tomorrow is the day I get to take it for a good spin. I'm hoping to get myself a supercar of some description next year, so I'm working my way through the list of possibles to see what I like. I haven't actually sat in an Aston since I was a small boy in the 70s, when my father had a DBS and a V8. I'll be interested to see how it compares to the SLS Gullwing I've already tried, then it's a couple of other candidates to go. I know this isn't big news to you lucky people, but I thought I'd share it all the same! wavey

What else are you trying? Look forward to feedback.

I found the SLS rather claustrophobic inside, and also the interior was very similar to our SLK. The Aston feels much more special to me. Also, personally I want a sports car to have a third pedal.

I'm trying an LP560-4 and a Ferrari 599. I'm more of a 'Super GT' person than super car to be honest, but the Lambo caught my eye at MB World. I'd just been driving the SLS, then walked across the car park back to the hotel and there sat a 13 plate Gallardo Spider, which actually made the SLS look pretty ordinary. It was at this point that I added one to 'the list'. laugh Fortunately a local PHer has been kind enough to offer his car to me for a drive. Not quite sure how I'm going to get my hands on a 599 though!

If you want a Super GT you've missed the best car off your list wink

Have no fear, the DBS is well and truly on the radar. If anything I prefer the look of it to the V12V, but the V12V is what I am able to drive at the moment. I won't buy a V12V without trying a DBS first, because it is such a stunning looking car, but I do hear that the V12V edges it in the driving department. I hear that auto actually suits the DBS better than manual and that the shift is a bit awkward because of the position of the lever. Which do you have?

At my tender age the only one to have is the manual, it's stunning. When you get to the age of TonyV12V who has just swapped his V12V for the far more refined DBS you need an auto biggrin

Well at least we managed half a dozen posts before the infamous AM Forum banter crept in! laugh
At early forties, I think I still qualify for three pedals, as long as I prefer the way the manual drives. driving Obviously, there's no auto option in the Vantage anyway, so that's one less dilemma. smile

I can handle the banter, don't worry! Did you try a V12V as a comparison?

TBH it wasn't even on my radar. I didn't even test drive my car, I just wanted a DBS and I will never sell it unless I have to.

Don't know how a DBS compares as I haven't driven one but they must be pretty similar. Went out in mine again today for only the third time and I'm starting to really love it now.

If only there was someone who has had both recently to compare and contrast scratchchin.

Fair play to you Nick. After seeing a few in the flesh I can understand why. I'm hoping to find something that really blows me away in that kind of 'oh my God I have GOT to have one of these' way. smile The last time I felt like that was in 1997, when I drove a colleague's brand new 993 turbo 4. If a car doesn't make me feel like that, then at this kind of price point, I really shouldn't be buying it.

Evening bud. There is someone on here who's had both so hopefully he will drop in. At the end of the day though it depends what you want. As we both know on a hoon we all end up at the T junction within seconds of each other. V8 4.3 or DBS/V12V thumbup

Yes sorry I've had a few cars doing well with my current one and if I move on it may well be a volante.

Owned a V12V and driven Nick's nail of a DBS. Well it was after I had driven it yes When he says he will never sell it unless he has to, what he means is he can't sell it now. biggrin

Impressions, I think the DBS is the slightly prettier car and definately from the rear, oh yes. Driving controls are obviously the same in all aspects but the main difference is the cornering and ride quality. The DBS is a little softer and over long distance would be my choice, but for a hoon.... the driving choice would be the V12V. It feels more alive and the initial turn-in is sharper, the edginess is what I enjoy and that feeling that you get from a car that you know wants to bite you, but you have it by the scruff of the neck. The DBS is a great car, but my next car will be a V12V again or hopefully a V12VS so that I can switch on the softer suspension when needed.

The DBS has adaptive suspension is that not the same as the V12V I know they have different tyres.

Well I feel a bit of a twit now! When I read 'Most Aston Martin experiences let you drive the baby V8 version, but we've got the V12' I stupidly assumed they meant the baby Vantage rather than Aston. Consequently, I've just left the driver's seat of an auto DB9. boxedin

I can confirm it is fact - the only variable is if we talking about the age of your liver biggrin In which case Nick beats me hands down - actually he probably beats everyone on this forum yes
