Can anyone advise as to whether a V8V may fit into a standard (i.e 1960s, council-style) garage?

I am looking to let one but am seriously concerned about width! It's not much use if I can't get out of the car once I've put it in there...

The answer is NO!

You would be lucky to get any modern car into a 60's garage.

I have a Double garage and my Vantage only just fits!

Mine fits in my single 1970's garage completely fine.

Every garage is different, sometimes it depends on the door. Just need to measure it up. Modern / new build garages are the worst IMHO

How wide is a 1960's garage out of interest?

My garage is 7'6" wide, 2286mm, not much wider than a Vantage with the mirrors unfolded. It just fits, but it's tight. Doesn't leave much room to open the door, although having the power fold option is a necessity when there is so little wriggle room. A carpet on the wall is a must too.

Best Regards

I park a DBS in a 60's garage and its tight with the wing mirrors passing through the door but it does fit, just! I use a jumper between the door and wall when I get out! It sounds great when you start the car in such a small space :-)

You need to practice your parking if you have difficulty getting it into a double garage.

My DB9 lives in a double garage, and it's a tight squeeze due to it having a pillar in the middle. Plenty of room to open the door once I'm in though.

Ah, well, if there's a pillar in the middle then it's got two single doors. So comments about struggling to get into a double garage are not really relevant. It's the door that's the important bit.

I used to push my V8V into the garage because there wasn't enough room to get out! Honest!

My garage was built in 1912 to house a Sheffield Simplex car built around 1909 so it's designed to take that car. The Simplex in question was by coincidence a 4.7L putting out 30HP, I believe, from my research. The Simplex was 1900mm wide.
I had my "up and over door" replaced with a behind the opening roller type which bought me about 100mm each side by removing the frame. My V8V fits easily but it's a bit tight to walk around the perimeter of the car.

"Just Fits" in terms that it is easy to get into and fully open both doors without touching any walls. No room for another car!

We have a different defination of the term "just fits" !!

Mine "just fits", i.e. about 2 inches either side of the garage door, carpet on both walls, and I have to wind the window down to get in and out.

Gents,

Thanks for the comments and the photo above. I will measure the potential garage and compare with the measurements posted here.

You may wonder why I don't just try the car in the garage. Well, I don't have the option of doing that. I tried parking in front of the closed door and "imagining" whether it would fit inside, but it's hardly reliable.

I need to post up some pics of the car, some time, and introduce myself!

They couldn't be any narrower than my insulated ex-refrigerated container could they?
