I have a tungsten V8V which I absolutely love, however I'm starting to get itchy feet for another colour. I just spoke to a dealer who informed that some colours such as Toro (met red) can have a large impact on value eg lower! I would have thought because of the rarity of them it would have at least helped the resale....The guy was trying to sell me a Tempest grey one so that may have been the reason smile

What do you guys think, I know we all buy sometimes with our heart and not the head, but I would really like to minimise the deprecation!

Many thanks
Ian.

Silvers and greys are safe colours for forecourts. Obscure colours limit the market of potential customers.
So in that, supply and demand dictate price.
Don't panic, because that means if he has a red one in, you can beat him down in price now!!
What you save now, you lose on resale. It's all relative.
Saying that, it's only poo interior colours that I see causing a price drop. Not exterior.

I must admit ive been looking at a AM dealer Toro Red 4.7. Its done 39,000 but is at 47k. I quite like the colour but i know its highish mileage but do you think the colour is making the price low?

A dealer will adjust the conversation to suit the colour....if you're selling a silver one, he'll say they're common and won't fetch much. If you're buying a banana yellow, he'll tell you they're the rarest colour ever and command a premium.
Get whatever colour you want and enjoy it for what it is. Somebody will like it at the other end, hopefully!

Personally, I prefer the non-silver non-black colours. I can't believe there are so many Onyx black cars with obsidian interiors. Getting into one is like climbing into Helena Bonham Carter's wardrobe... Only less expensive.

Dealers will always want the easy sell option, black grey etc, if you choose a less popular colour you may just wait a while longer when you come to sell but there will always be people out there who want something that stands out a bit more.
If i had the £60K to go with my Vantage the orange V12 at NP would be in my garage tomorrow and the last thing i would be doing wopuld be worrying if it wouldn't sell easily come the sad day it had to go.

Assuming it is the one I think it is (and Toro red is VERY rare), I think that is pretty good value as long as the clutch is ok (it being Sportshift). Were I looking at the moment, I'd be going after that very car. It is probably one of the last Toro Red cars built and a rare 4.7 Toro Red V8V as the paint was dropped from the colour list around the time the 4.7 cars appeared.

I'm a huge fan of Toro Red. My first V8V in 2006 was that colour when they were still very new on the road. Got so many admiring looks and I loved it. The colour seems to suit the size of the V8V.

My car came from Derby and went back there. Looked stunning in the showroom when they put it on display but it did take them while to sell it. I think it is the monochrome viewpoint of so many prospective purchases. When I spec'd mine, I went to the factory to see one being built on a production line of greys, blacks and silvers. Everyone commented on it looking stunning but all still went for "safe" monochrome colours ....

When i bought my Aston, I searched for more than a year to find a color I wanted/liked. Not easy to do in the sea of blacks/grays/silvers. So just because the color isn't common doesn't mean there isn't a market for it.
There are plenty who would like 'something different' color-wise.

Buy what you like. When time comes to sell, the uniqueness of the color will work in your favor, since you'll not be competing against a whole host of others in like condition/color. If someone really wants a red one, they won't be able to easily bypass yours for another.

Up in Derby? Then yes it is. The mileage is putting me off. If it was a 911 (i bought mine at 48000miles) then i wouldnt be bothered but with Astons im thinking its different.

Evening All.

Last month I traded my 4.7 V8 Toro Red (39K miles by coincidence) for a Silver DB9.

To be honest I didn't do a lot of research but I didn't feel that colour was an issue with regard to trade-in value. I checked was up for sale elsewhere, read a bit on here about dealer mark-up and so had an expectation...which was met.

The other reason I felt it wasn't an issue is that I wanted the Toro Red and I assume I'm not the only one looking for brighter colour choices. In a funny kind of way I was a little sad to be joining the more 'standard' colours with the DB9.

Why do you think that?
Lots of higher miles Astons on here. Only issue would be when the clutch was last changed

A lot of it is tradition / history:

Aston: silver/grey
Ferrari: red
Lambo: yellow/orange
Porsche: not interested smile
Misc 60's British metal: British Racing Green
Ducati: red

Then there's the colours that go in and out of fashion. White being a recent trendy colour.

Exterior traditional clours will sell easier and may command higher prices. Red Ferraris etc. But in the end buy what you like and don't worry about what anyone else thinks.

Interiors are probably more important in many respects when it comes to resale lead times and value.

Porsches legendary bullet proof-ness is a bit of a myth in my (painful) experience, they have as many problems as any other good quality sports car vendor, in fact when they do have a problem it seems to end up being particularly bad, and trust me Porsche have been known to duck and dive when confronted with these problems!

That said, I haven't done enough mileage in Astons myself yet to really compare, but reading the reports of others on here modern Astons don't seem to be any worse, if at all.

I was lucky in that I only wanted a Tungsten V8V since it fitted my mental picture of "my" Aston. Part of me would like to get a red one just to be a bit different but I know it won't happen. On the other hand, I think of the V12 Vantages as being a bit more OTT in character and probably more suited to lairy colours.

Could they be the same car? Yours and the one in Derby? Was it SportShift?

I think it almost certainly is Stephen. It was a Stratstone Derby trade-in, 39K miles 4.7 SportSshift. Clutch was changed at around 24K miles from memory. Great car.

I think attitudes are changing amongst some of the dealers. Have a look at the V12VS demos coming to the market. And "Works" are pretty much speccing their demos in launch colours smile
