Ok not the sexiest subject but just had car serviced (V12V) and after 5k miles on (girly
) P Zeros tread depth across the fronts is 4.40, 7.00, 4.30 outer, mid, inner, and on rears is 3.70, 5.50 and 3.70. Is this an acceptable/normal variation or an indication of under inflation? Let me say here and now I will ignore all comments to the effect that they shouldn't have that much tread left after 5k miles

yre pressures should be checked manually every week, was they within the manufacturers recommended settings over the service interval ?
Got to admit I have neglected this relying on the monitors flagging a loss of pressure- not good if they aren't right in the first place. Nothing was mentioned at the service (by another dealer) but I'm not sure they actually check pressures, I know BMW don't - I queried mine when it was last in and they said they don't check them as part of the service.PiloteAM said:
I remember someone knowledgable about these things saying that the way Astons are setup causes uneven tyre ware, but that seems quite significant.
Never had this issue on mine, I always get even wear front and back but then I have a compressed air thing going on
Retman those are under inflated

Andrew, it shows all the signs of an owner that has lost significant weight and who hasn't altered the tyre pressures to take account of the weight loss in the middle of the car
Neil, only you have identified the obvious fact that I and so many others have missed

Time to get this sorted so bought Pitking pressure guage and will see just how far out they are.
Don't know about the tyre pressure monitor on the Astons but on the BMW and VAG group ones they are there to inform of sudden loss of pressure which will not be felt with the run flat tyres that are frequently fitted. They do not detect the slow loss of pressure that happens naturally on tyres, check them once a week with good accurate tyre pressure gauge is the only way to keep track of the pressures unless you have one of the latest systems that show individual tyre pressures.
You posted about getting a pressure gauge while I was typing my reply, must speed up my typing.

Very dependent. Mine were on the canvas on the inner edges, still have over 4mm on outers and middle! My car is pretty aggressively set-up, but was a hell on an eye-opener for me!I would expect to need 4 new shoes after Rockingham and before Le Mans

I am however very surprised that the centre has that much tread after 5000 miles. IIRC they only start life with 7mm, possibly 8 on Girly tyres
Cant believe that took you so long
You forget I have Miss Daisy in the passenger seat on many occasions
You're right about the tyres before Le Mans ( Classic) Lewis but those will be on the MGC (the one in my profile pic), they look like new but close inspection reveals one or two bulges on the treads, pretty poor for 2,000 miles of use I'd say - maybe something to do with them being over 10 years old
- testimony that the warnings that tyres do not have a long life even if lightly used are true. Car has become a major garage queen which a recommissioning and run to LM should start to put right. Thanks for the advice/opinions everyone, off to pump up some tyres, come to think of it I've still got a part used cannister of helium, wonder how that compares with nitrogen, maybe that's the start of another thread
