Astonauts to Le Mans 2014
Discussion
A motly crew of Astonauts are heading to the LM24 this year; this thread might be of some use in years to come or if anyone fancies trying to book last minute! Also good for me to have it in one place or for anyone to pipe up if I've forgotten anything...
There were the original ten:
yeti (the 'ideas' man, unbelieveably)
Neil1300r (the speshul one and alcohol level barometer)
Neinfondue (the kitchen expert with no clutch pedal)
Cockernee (the blagger - you never saw him, right)
PiloteAM (the passenger. Doesn't like to put the miles on y'see)
Bincenzo (the Maverick; 'talk to me Goose')
Seemon (the polisher. Lets hope the weather is dry)
Getoff (the bed warmer and new V12 man)
Woolders (the chairman and custodian of trousers red)
Lotto (the money and newest bender)
And after all tickets, grandstand passes, ferries and accomodation was sorted, the Moose let AMDBSNick (the Goose to Binz' Maverick) come too which b
ksed everything up royally
Fortunately we all hoped he'd make it so made sure there was room everywhere just in case
Brittany Ferry from Portsmouth to Caen on Wednesday overnight, 3 x cabins booked so 12 beds. Arrive about 6am halfway through France feeling like crap and then pick the most obscure and unlikely backroads to avois Les Flic. I insist on hourly stops for excellent French coffee and pastries.
Staying in 3 Gites on one farm in Pontvilain as most wanted their own rooms. It's about 12km south of the circuit along completely empty country roads; my old pals from the Maserati forum are staying in a villa in Le Lude another 20km away and we'll be popping over there daily as a) they have a pool and b) they are some of the nicest, emptiest roads I have ever driven. The whole countryside south of Le Mans is empty around the race, Le Plod are all in the north looking for speeding Brits or in the town/circuit looking for drink-driving Brits. We'll be left alone
Fortunately the blagger doesn't drink and it was decided in the Dog and Duck that perhaps we could hire a mini-bus and he could punt us to and from the track on race day. The best we could manage was an 8 seater, I'm sure we'll be fine... But it means proper drinking on race night - all night
Grandstand tickets are via Motor Racing International and we are in Tribune 19 Lagache. I personally prefer T5 Dunlop but we were too late and the first timers will see the start and finish this way which is pretty awesome.
I'll be fitting some yellow lipstick to my car for 'tis an Aston tradition and i hope the others will join me
Counting down the days :yes

We always stay south of Le Mans, about 40 mins away near Chatueau sur Loir, I number of my mates and their bank managers can categorically assure you that Le Plod are not all in the north.
In fact, 2 years ago they waited near our chateau, we think specifically to book cars in our group. They got at least 3.

Cannot wait to see the outcome of this trip! Enjoy it and PilotAM should to keep his status of "pilote" from the French local press
Yes, that alone is reason to be a passenger... I can find out if I'm also bad luck when I'm not behind the wheel

Anyway, if you suffer my degree of issues, you'll be needing a chauffeur

Poor old Bins had to leave us as he has to spend the summer flying jets around
His place has been duly taken by Dredders :yes"
Then Seemon cancelled too, so his place was taken by Sukh
Then Seemon decided that he was being a blouse and he would come after all so now we're 13; which is sort of like the absolute maximum of 10 we originally discussed
The more the merrier
We will be meeting up with the Aston Passion chaps out there (Les Astonautes) and having a rather splendid dinner on the Friday night.
