Hi everyone,

I recently bought an 09 V8 Vantage, SportShift. The clutch is slipping when going from 1st to 2nd over 5000 rpm so I guess it's time for a new one. Dealer gave me a nice chunk of change towards the replacement.

I know I can just get a new OEM unit but was also wondering what other options were available in the US.

BR obviously is out as they don't ship their parts.
VelocityAP sells a gt4 spec with lightweight flywheel which apparently can last 2 to 3 times as long.
RSC sells a clutch kit but it's for the 4.3 so this is out too.

What other options are there?

This is my only car and I drive it daily in the city. Ideally I'm looking for driveability and improved life.

Thanks!

Yes Pablo we Brits really don't appreciate how lucky we are having the Aston expertise to hand over here in the UK. I've just been talking to a fellow AMOC member about the problems he is having getting work done on his V12 Vanquish in Houston.
Sorry I cant be any help with your problem, I'm currently in Houston and all the Brits are in bed so I'm keepinmg busy.

David Appleby Engineering sell a number of clutch replacement options:

Their 'lightweight flywheel and clutch' package is the Prodrive GT4 unit. As far as I'm aware, they are willing to post to the USA.

If going the OEM replacement route don't drive the car until the clutch gives our completely, that way you might save the cost of a flywheel.

Are you sure it is clutch slip and not in need of a few learns?
Get it in 4th a low revs, floor it and see if it slips

Thanks a lot for the Appleby link. I will be contacting them with further questions.

Mike, what's happening is that when the car is over around 5000 rpms in 1st, it just won't shift to 2nd. It will slip until the revs have dropped down to around 5000 or less, then it will shift. I haven't had any issues with the other gears but...

When I took the car for a PPI at the Aston dealer they measured clutch wear and it was at 1740 out of 1800. They said it should be replaced soon.

I've been doing learns every time I start the car, and the issue persists.

I also want to take the car on a road trip and would hate to be stranded because of the clutch. The car's salesman gave me back around US$ 3k towards a new clutch so it won't sting as much anyways.

Update: The car wouldn't start today. Got a gearbox fault error. After a few tries it did start but now it's obvious...
