Hello, this is my first post on PH after a fair amount of time lurking.
I'm looking at buying a DB9, and have been offered an LM for 50K, with 20K miles. Condition is ok, but not perfect. It's hard to gauge where the pricing should be on the LM. Should the limited edition nature of the car add any premium to the price? I've seen stated several times that a 2009 with Sports Pack would be a better option, but I've not seen any at around 50K.
Any advice would be gratefully received.
Thanks

The DB9 LM was a special edition and had unique silver paintwork (Sarth Silver), sports pack and a bright interior - with a piano red fascia and door toppings. Also had a sports pack and they were said to be limited to 124 numbered examples but if memory serves me right they only sold 70 odd but stand to be corrected on that. Personally, I love the colour of the paintwork and quite like the interior. I do not even think Sarthe Silver is available as an option to order on a new car.
The problem for this edition is that very shortly afterwards AML did a big revision of the DB9 for MY2009. Power increased by 20bhp, new fascia and body strengthened considerable so undoubtedly the 2009 MY is the better car. I am not sure that the LM edition has any premium attached to it because it is a limited edition. I know that when I bought my MY2009 DB9 I tried the previous incarnation and the difference was great. I also wanted the glass key!!
As to price it seems to be less that Authorised Dealers are selling non LM cars at a higher price but it does appear that the MY2009 cars hold their value better. Maybe someone like Silverspeed will come along and tell you a bit more about the LM as he has one.

I have number 007 of 124 and Ian is correct in so much as they only built 69 and at least one has been written off. It has the original interior but IMO that is not a negative as it differentiated it from the DBS and was a very modern dash ( although not that functional!) It has Sports Pack as standard and almost every option was included ( premium hi-fi, umbrella and even a trickle charger) and I have it confirmed that Sarthe Silver will remain unique to LM cars ( indicating they hope to do more just waiting for a good result at Le Mans. The only option was colour of headliner - tailors grey or obsidian. I love mine - thought about selling it a number of times but just can't as it's the last of the 'original' 9s with a unique interior and some interesting external cosmetic bits. Although the 09MY car got a power hike and DBS interior - I was told the new TT2 software was downloaded on to the LM which meant less rear wheel spin on sporting starts. I believe this to be true as my previous 9 had this issue. I'm biased because I have one but don't regret buying it and can't see myself selling it. Out of interest the piano red trim from the LM became an option on new Vanquish and the LM wheels were part colour coded which I believe was a first for Aston. Interestingly Aston don't recognise the car on their wall of fame at Gaydon but do the N400 which was launched at the same time. I understand they only built 69 because of a dramatic downturn in sales meant they rushed out early the 09MY. It's interesting that customers were waiting for their DBS when DB9 - 09MY cars came out with a number of parts unique to DBS included .

Thanks for the replies- much appreciated.
I am based in Guernsey, so the lower price compared to DB9's in the UK should reflect the lack of VAT here. Having said that, the same garage recently sold an 07 DB9 with 12K on the clock for a similar price. Being based in Guernsey does limit purchasing options, and buying from the UK can be a bit of a hassle. Having said that, there is the possibility of getting a VAT qualifier from the UK and getting a decent price.
The LM isn't in the greatest of conditions, which is putting me off a bit. The previous owner kept it outdoors very close to the sea, and I do worry a bit that this could cause problems in the future?
As a further option there is a 2012 Virage with 5700 miles available. Price is a bit higher than the LM, which would probably take some serious man maths to become affordable......

Pre owned Astons do not qualify for VAT in the UK unless preregistered from new by a dealer, so I wouldn't factor that into used car valuations over here.

As the owner of an LM I think they are super special and worth a big premium
I did a back to back test with an 09 model without sport pack and didn't like it as much. I thought the red interior also made it feel more special and as a run out model it should be as sorted as they come...

There are not many about but they are possible to find.

Had another day with my potential purchase. After a close inspection, and after reading advice elsewhere, these are the following faults:
1. Two very small areas of "bubbling" on the drivers door between the window and the frame.
2. A few areas of white corrosion (not sure if that is the correct term) on the centre wheel caps.
3. Tear in the drivers door seal, and a small rip in the passengers door seal.
4. Chipping in the paint on the interior of the both doors along from the handle.
5. Condensation on one of the rear lights.
6. There is some sort of hose in the boot which is coming away from the roof of the boot.
7. The sound system doesn't appear to pick up any MW signal (which is fairly important to me as my radio station of choice is 5 Live).
8. Heavy rust on the bonnet "anchor" (i.e. the D ring in the radiator housing which the bonnet release mechanism attaches to).
The dealer has confirmed that all of these would be sorted if I purchase (except for the condensation on the rear light, which I believe is a common issue).
I would appreciate any advice on the above, and whether I should be satisfied with the dealer fixing the areas of concern. The DB9 LM is numbered 19 out of the total number of cars built.
Many thanks!

Nothing really major there for a six year old car. The boot hose is just a wiring protector that should clip back in . If there are no mechanical issues and it has a full service history , with the commitment of the dealer to rectify the faults , just get it bought . 1. 1,2,5 and 7 are definitely issues that I would expect on a 9 this age and the rest (not sure about the hose in the boot) do appear to be a relatively easy fixes. My only worry would be the matching of the paintwork around the door handles. If you go for it, state that you won't accept anything other than a perfect match.
Good luck with it - you do sound as if you're already bonding with the car so get the bits and pieces sorted and start enjoying a great limited edition DB9!
Is it from an AM dealer, by the way??
